Default Speed Alert Devices - What is out there

Just had a bad afternoon with a speeding fine ... I had no idea I was speeding... I thought the location was an 80 zone however it was a 70.

In the last 4 to 6 months I have had a few fines hitting me where previous to this for at least a 3 or 4 years I have had no fines... Of course I will need to change my attitude while driving... which I aim to do however I am thinking to invest in useful speed alert device which I assume are available

Do any of the members here have experience or advice here... ?

...and please do not flame about slowing down .... I am already hearing this

If your in Victoria and you were doing less than 10 over the limit you can appeal it if you have not had any other speeding tickets in a while.

I have always had them revised and canceled.

If your in another state check your states police website.

These days i drive with cruise control turned on everywhere and set 2 Kph under the limit.

Its just too easy in modern cars to sneak over the limit and id rather have my eyes on the road than down on a speedo constanly.

What about a GPS? It will tell you if you're over the speed limit.

Unfortunately not accurate enough, as the speed limits change in faster succession than the GPS map distributors can keep up with.

So although the GPS is accurate at reading speed; you still have to be aware of the speed limit area you are driving in.

You don't say what state you are in, however in NSW the RMS have put out a speed advisory app for iPhone's that displays the current speed limit and notifies when you go over. It's called 'Speed Advisor'.

All NSW speed camera locations are also listed here:

Heading downhill with cruise control set is a surefire way of getting done. Especially if it's a gentle slope. I can, at least, program my Statesman to alert me when I exceed a preset speed (in my case 100Kph) because I live in the country. I've been done for 4Ks over on a major road. All other major roads are 60Kph except this particular one (50Kph).

I'm using the Speed Adviser on my Android phone, you don't have to look at it as it tells you.It is quite accurate and knows the school zones and tells you"End of school zone"

One devise I was and still am considering is a Polaris Brand HUD speed reader.
Currently I have a few years old Uniden 301 which works well for my current speed but in recent times it has been slow acquiring the satellites so it may be on the way out.
I also have an Aldo GoCruise and because its a much newer unit, it displays in most areas, the current posted speed limits but I have found a couple localy that have been changed, mostly to a lower limit so as a previous post says, YOU have to be aware of the speed limits and not totaly rely on any devises.
The other problem with posted limits is when for Road works or accidents, they lower the limit or where you now have places with variable speeds depending on the weather conditions.
I know in NSW at least, any fines increase your CTP insurance during the 2 years it takes for the fines to be erased so you get hit twice for the one offence.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
