Default IP Cameras - better frame rate?

Hey guys, just wandering what tips to get better frame rate from my IP cameras. Currently 6 cameras connected to a 10/100 switch. Would a 10/100/1000 increase frame rate and also maybe setting up some VLANs?

    Thanks guys!

6 cameras shouldn't be maxing out the switch.

Check the setup in the camera itself (should be able to connect to it with ie/firefox etc)

You will be able to set the frame rate there, but setting higher frame rate may lead to lower resolution.

Possibly. What protocol is used by default for these setups? Does anyone know, TCP or UDP?

25fps is real time for PAL - you shouldn't get any skipping.

In the setup you need to check if it is set at CBR (constant bit rate) or VBR (variable bit rate) - it may not be sending any data when it doesn't see any change in the image.

Great, let me check this. I have a a fair but of knowledge on networking but havnt set IP cameras up before.

Surely bandwidth is a biggy though? Wouldnt a 10/100/1000 help with this. I feel like 10/100 is a massive bottleneck!

    Cheers

A 2MP camera will use less than 4Meg (depending on compression and video type)

How are you recording the footage? Is it straight to a network drive or an NVR?

Do you want to record real time constantly or only record on movement?

Thanks for the reply. To be honest I usually just record constantly, I dont bother with motion detection.
