Dedicated hardware? Do you want RCA cables to go with that?

I love Chromecast. It's a beautiful bit of equipment. Any services that don't support it are now dead to me.

I've been trialling Stan. It's not bad. The content is much better than I expected, and there's good diversity. Not as much as Netflix (US) but less filler.

The app still needs a bit of work to catch up to Netflix but once you start watching a show you don't care that much. I haven't had any issues with the actual streaming or getting things to stream.

I'll probably stick with it for a little while and watch a few series out that I've started.

Im not a big fan of streaming myself. I was given a modified Stan apk from a whirlpool member for my ouya which works well but the ouya also has Kodi which kind of defeats the purpose.

    I agree with hoe

I signed up then when it came to setup i could only run it on my windows computer
as the other 6 Android devices i have wouldn't install the App

So I cancelled my 30 day trial that night, just incase they tried to charge me in a moths time

With WDTV Live Streaming you are at the mercy of WD to add Stan to their firmware. As they have superseded the SMP, there has been no firmware updates for over 6 months now even though the current one has major issues.

They probably could add it but just don't give a f#ck.

Would be nice to be able to get Stan .... Presto .... Netflix ..... & others ..... all on the one STB to view it on a TV

The Fetch TV STB has most FTA catch up channels & is said to be going to have the Netfix App (No Stan ATM) ...... would be nice if they continue to add to it so everything is on the one STB

The Fetch TV STB also has a number of ways to connect it to your TV

Chromecast looks like their prefered technology to watch it on a TV ..... Both Stan & Presto are on Chromecast & I suspect Netflix will be too ..... (lets hope you get Good wireless internet reception where your HD HDMI TV is)

I think i am correct here that WDTV does not support Netflix any more and an upgrade may delete it from the older boxes?

They don't support Netflix on their new boxes and have not released any firmware updates for the older streaming model since the new one was released. The new one uses completely different firmware. So, in answer to the query, no one knows if they will do that but I would think it unlikely...you can always go back to an earlier firmware anyway

My feeling is that they have abandoned the older model completely and they will likely not release any further firmware updates.
