PS3 and AVI files on USB Stick

I have a 40Gig PS3 that has no problems playing AVI files from a CD or DVD, BUT I can not get the same file to work when using a USB Stick, the USB Drive is seen but all I get is "there are no titles" message. the avi file is in the root directory and the USB Drive is formated in FAT32. I also have the latest Firemware update. Any clues?.

After talking to a freind it seems that when update 2.10 came out, he also lost the ability to veiw avi or Divx files from his USB Stick. Reading other post seems to confirm this?.

Unfourtunatly we had to the update to play online or use the Playstation shop. so you have no choice in it.

I dont have the ability to format the USB to NTFS only Fat32.

ps3 wont read ntfs, in fact it only supports fat or fat 32

as for playing back divx/avi, ive never had the ability in the first place...

I keep getting unsupported format

It DOES stream divx/Xvid though...
