![]() | Would be nice if it included ability to stream additional media formats (eg avi) instead of having to go through the hoops currently required. ag

| Senior Member | What do you mean? You can stream avi...... have been able to ever since avi playback was included 3 firmwares ago. Been doing avi's and wmv wirelessly from my laptop ever since Christmas. Works fine. What are these hoops you are talking about? |

![]() | I tried an avi file from my NAS and got the usual message about not supported media. File has an asterisk, I think the 'properties' dialog says it's divx, 25fps. Another program says it has compressed audio. Dunno why it won't play then. Any ideas? ag

| Senior Member | Sure, if read here i have posted how the PS3 only plays SOME! avi files, yet i am not sure what codecs within an avi play and which don't. Some WMV will not play either, yet some will... i don't know if it the fps or what... but thats just what happens. Most avi's you download from a proper site play, if that helps. I have WiFi streamed avi's of 1.4gig ok... never tried any larger yet. Now in saying this, you can use TVersity or Nero 8 and stream EVERYTHING. Thats is what a friend of mine does, he uses Nero 8 as the server and it transcodes what can not be played etc... it also loads up faster and plays faster. There is much written about these 2 apps for the PS3 on the net. |

![]() | Thanks for that information. I haven't really read up much, so correct me if I'm wrong. I thought you could only stream to PS3 using Nero or TVersity if you have a pc as a server and these apps run on the server, and do the conversion on the fly. If this is true, it doesn't help me because I have a NAS, not a pc/server. Could you please comment? ag

| Premium Member | The server you are usiing to stream video must be DLNA compliant such as TVersity and Twonky. I have a Netgear home NAS (ReadyNAS NV+) with the latest firmware update also now supports the PS3. TwonkyMedia also works on many platforms including many low cost NAS appliances from DLink, Netgear in additions to normal PC and Mac OS flavours. You can also burn the AVI files onto a DVD disk or put a copy onto a USB stick and play them directly. Most of the AVI files you download of the internet will work. |

![]() | I'm using an HP MediaVault which the PS3 finds and which streams mpg files to the PS3 fine. That's not the problem. I have just transcoded an avi to mpg (which took about 24 hours !!!) and will post the results tomorrow sometime when I have had a chance to test. ag
