Look at this pic, I locate the chips to the right hand side of the number 2 box.

http://www.kangamail.com/estore/supp...ltra_gh006.jpg The location will however depend on what chip you are installing.

Thanks for the reply cwispy, the chip im using is a modbo 4.0.
I have added a pic of the install locations so maybe someone can help me more. I have all the points soldered apart from 2 of them.
CX & SX. In the pic top right side it has the "S". Does this go to SX on the chip? As the chip doesn`t have S on it. Also on my M/B I cannot find this CX location anywhere.

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of my board. It also has a added chip on the top compared to the first pic provided for chip install reference.

Full Diagram here
The "CX" is optional if your mod chip has it. (Should this been done???)
My next question now is the "SX" pad on the chip. Is this the "S" point in the picture of the M/B???

All help/ideas appreciated.

Cheers

Let us know how you go with the modbo 4.0 in a v3, it has been said that they are not particularly good in those earlier models though I have never tried on in anything earlier than a version 7.

mate here is the cx point using your diagram (have marked it in red) , you must use it the modbo 4 will not operate without it
but I am also curious if the modbo 4 works in the v3

I doubt its gonna work on a V3 or V4......did a V5 last night & it went well,, but have had a V5 that was erratic(BSOD on boot-up).....Duo3Gold is ok on
V3... did one of those too recently.

Probably could have picked a easer one as your first go...lol

I try and use Modbo 3.0 on earlier models as the later chips are a bit iffy. that said I have a V3 right now that will boot NTSC originals no probs but its very unpredictable with burnt games, trying some differant media tomorrow and the laser is suspect.

In all honestly I really try and talk customers out of moding these PS2 as they are so old and laser hours are in question. This guy basically insisted though

I just fired up the version 3 before modding and it doesn`t even work. I have 4 units here and never tested any of them. I have a version 7 here which does work and I will be putting the Modbo 4.0 in that.
I will post here how it goes. Wont be till about 2 weeks time though as thats how long its going to take for me to get a working dvd drive for it.

Thanks to all who have posted helpful ideas and comments for the version 3. I will use them later on when I get the unit up and running.

Cheers.
