Default Helmet cameras?

Anyone have any experience with helmet-mounted cameras, especially for road riding use? I'm taking a ride later this year with a coupla hundred close friends and wanna do some amateur hollywood stuff along the way.....

A friend is really happy with the go pro cam... He loves it so much i don't stop hearing about it.

Not sure if it will fit around a road bike helmet.. uses it for motoross.

i used to get my handycam in the backpack with a mini spycam and a 12V battery. Getting a steady vision and line of view is not easy. Your head moves a lot when riding and what you look at is not what the camera always sees. Viewing the footage can be nausiating. And Noise is also an issue, if the camera has an inbuilt speaker then you will hear loads of wind buffering past your camera.

Mounted on the bike is always good, as it will produce a sturdy video.

Hmm, I ride a hardtail (ie no rear suspension) Harley (ie lotsa f**kin vibration). I think the helmet mount option might afford a more stable camera platform...

edit: the cams in your link all use an analog input, wouldn't I be better off with something digital?

I don't think they make bullet cameras in the digital range. The link I provided you with is for kits that connect to a camcorder in a bumbag or back pack, alot of road bikers use these types to do the youtube videos you see. I have done a few for mates on the Anzac run here in Sydney and they turned out pretty cool.

If you don't have a camcorder then this one comes with the recorder.

This is similar to what to expect, now this is worse case scenario as I don't see you trail biking on your hog, but for the amount of vibration/shock it still looks good. Mounted on the side of the helmet eye level as opposed to ontop.

Thanks for your input, intelliGEORGE. I'm thinking along the lines of running a decent HD videocam anyway, since a lot of entertainment happens along the way (ie when stopped), I suppose it'd be easy to plug one of these into that; I can always tinker with the low-res bits later down the track anyway.
