HTPC or media PC software recommendations?

I am just setting up a htpc, already running XP to play movies and mp3's in the lounge connected to the plasma.
I am not against running linux if I can get drivers for my video card.
Does anybody have any good software they recommend.
I only need very simple functions to play divx and mp3's from my server and maybe stream internet radio.
I do not need PVR/record functions.
Must look pretty.

I used a software HTPC front end called MyHTPC. worked very well. even managed to get limited functionality to navigate around it using the HDTV PCI Cards remote control.
