this knowledge comes with a crap load of time and expierence, you see one model from maker "X" come from another maker "Y", but another of "x"'s unit are made by "X" and sold to "Y"

you see it happens on a model to model basis, and i'll tell you i have been surprised by some "reputilbe" that aren't inside, and yet i see maker "Y"'s unit selling for >$80 more, and inside they are the same unit!!!

so you'll have to adv on models you looking at and makes you'd prefer and see what we can dig up

Slightly OT, but I read somewhere even ALDI are selling them now!

I think you will be fine if you stick to the brands like Panasonic and the others. The stuff like 'Kogan' etc if often rubbish.

Like most things, you get what you pay for.

I have an Aldi TV which is a rebadged NEC which are not that flash themselves.
But so far so good and I guess at the end of the day the Warranty you receive governs what decision one makes as everything these days is built to a budget.

I frequent the tip shops a fair bit and the brands you see there could be a fair indication of what may or may not last.

For the Original Poster:

Plasma TV's from 'no name' brands are often made with an LG panel or screen. The components inside such as the power supply and the fans and other electronic components could come from anywhere.

Those that repair them could shed more light on this.

Does anyone know if these are any good?..I was going to have a look at one but apparently people were lining up from 8am to buy one, so they were all sold out by 9.30am

yes, I'm very happy with 46" I owe. Apparently, Samsung and Sony displays come from the same factory, the electronics and price is different. Personally, I preffer Samsung picture quality and approx.$1000 less in price

Cheers
