Thers all sorts out there but i use a xbox 360, works great, even bought a second in the new year sale's for $200 so the kids can stream downstairs aswell.
i want to be able to watch my movies that are stored on my main pc on my tv.
what is my best way of going about this.
im thinking a media cneter would do the trick but i have very limited knowledge on how they work.
Any pointers?
Edit: i dont actually need it for recording tv, all iwant to use it for is to stream movies from my big pc to the media centre that is then plugged into the tv. i think i have that right?

Chimp you have a few options, depends on what you have in the house or what / if any cash you want to spend.
o Connect your PC direct to your TV (Simplest way but can be a process switching the monitor settings each time you want to watch a movie).
o Get a Media Centre PC - Just a basic spec machine connected to your TV.
o If you have a 360 or PS3 get some software called PS3 Media Server that will stream any video on your PC to your TV.
o Get a Media Player like WhiteOx suggested.
Thats about all the tried methods ive used.
Shout if you want anymore info.
Good luck![]()

righto, this is something that is puzzling me a bit. i tried setting my ps3 upto stream videos but it wont do it. i can see my network and all my photos and that, but when i try and watch video off my pc it wont let me.
the software you talking about, does that get installed on the PS3 or on my pc?
Chimp this is it, .
Install it on your PC and add in all your folders you want to share. Once its done open up the PS3, go to the Video tab and it should be listed in there. The PS3 media server will auto convert most video formats to something the PS3 can play on the fly.
Oh make sure its added in your firewall if you are on Windows - a problem i had to start with.
Hope that helps.

If you don't want to watch HD stuff, an Xbox 1 with XBMC is still the best software and easiest to use....great for the wife and kids...I have 2 of them still in action.
too easy. thanks very much Toohey.
