I have an XVID file that i downloaded and when i try to play using WMP ,i get a message that says "Codec error, re directing windows media player download page". Of course this just goes to a blank webpage, i tried autogk and DVDfab to re convert but they wont even open the file - any idea's ?

install the Cole2k.Media.-.Codec.Pack and should get you out of trouble viewing it.

also i prefer to use The_KMPlayer as it plays all formats

Different codecs wont work, i think its just a dodgy file, try's to redirect to a website when i try to play it. Even tried converting to another format but after 30 secs it says its done .

    As Woodstock said - VLC
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.

Sounds like one of those dodgy scam vids with weird encoding, takes you to a site to try to get you to buy the reader...a scam of course..

hehehe, but for $25 think of all the other movies you can then watch...

personally I think this proprietary decoders is the worst of the worst, not only have the ripped of the movie, but now making $$ on it. this is the only reason why I'd like to see penalties enforced.

from memory, it takes you to websites, where they have contact details. I usually spend the time, telling them to eff off via e-mail (about 1000 times using a script) yep its childish.

    G’day mate

I think I know what sort of codecs you have on that avi file, they called vodei codecs.
Don’t s download that codecs fro their website, it will corrupt most of your installed codecs and windows media player as well
I have couple of avi’s few years ago with that codec.
They simply take an avi file (divx, xvid) wrap it in their stupid codec and then force people to buy the codec off them.

If the movie is worth it, then you need to install a VM( virtual machine) install a copy of XP, graphedit8, and some free time.
In the link bellow there is a set of instruction on how to do it( worked for me on both movies I had).

    Cheers

google for a program called Gspot. It will tell you what codec's, audio and video, are contained within a file.

    did it for you
