| Junior Member | Hi dude..thanks for looking into my thread ![]() I have been downloading .avi TV and movies for years now, burning to CD/DVD and playing them on a DivX compatible stand alone through the TV. (All legally available of course) A few months ago I started to run into problems with my Wintal DVDRX250 HD-DVD burner which has firmware about 2 years old. It would tell me that the file was not compatible. But these .avi's would play ok on my pc with an old version of PowerDVD. I found I could downsample the .avi's using AVS video tools, and they would play on the Wintal but that was time consuming. Anyway I waited for new Wintal firmware, but it seems like they are not bothering, so I went to buy a new cheap player. Found a small cool looking new player with some good features for $50, but stuff me it's another Wintal. I told the sales dude about my problem. He assured me that the firmware was updated and would be no problem, and they would take it back for a refund if I had trouble. Cool. But I do have trouble. My downloaded cartoon TV series, that would not play at all on the old player now plays. But whenever there is some action on the screen it goes all blurred and muddy, not so much pixilated. WTF? Should I just give Wintal the flick, or what. Are others having trouble playing newer .avi codec's ? Cheers, Rat |

| Junior Member | Wow oceanboy.......502 posts with an attitude like that and you have not been told to F%^K off on mass ??? This place sure has been through some changes since the CDcopyworld days of old. Have fun being pedantically anally legal. I hope you don't need to convert a legally bought music or video file format in the future to play on a portable or stand alone player. P.S you have a typo ![]() P.P.S I am a great supporter of music and film, I buy CD's, DVDs and go to the movies. Total spend about $1000 P.A. So I feel I can D/L a bit of TV because I find it convenient, instead of buying it on DVD. If your morals are higher than mine then WTF are you doing here on this forum ? Woot, it's been a long time since I've blasted someone on this forum eh Andrew? ![]() Hope I don't get a or something, but i really didn't find his comment useful or necessary.Cheers, Rat |

| Junior Member | Thanks for the tip Woodstock......and yeah I was reading the Xbox forum here and thinking about doing just that. But a few things about xbox are holding me back.........probably should post this in the xbox forum. (might cut and paste this bit to there later, or search some old posts first) Heat, size, start up time. Also how easy is the interface to use for kids / the woman? I would have to buy secondhand, and it might be on it's last legs. But then considering i could one fairly cheap, it wouldn't really matter. Just did a quick google and found this thread How much is a brand new Xbox 1 worth? - Xbox - Gaming They say it won't play newer codecs at high res, well what will then? I don't need high res, I have a 10 year old Sony CRT that still does us fine, for now. But if downloads are increasingly using these codecs then I need a way to play them. Shagga66 I sent you a PM ![]() |

![]() | Get yourself one of these AL Tech Mediagate MG-350HD Portable Multimedia Player 3.5" HDD Wireless Or go all out and get one of these AL Tech Mediagate MG-450HD Portable Multimedia Player HDMI /3.5 in SATA HDD Wireless They don't come with a HDD, though I have a 500gig drive in my MG-350HD, and so far have approx 50 DVD ISOs. I also have it connected to my network, and can play most files from my fileserver or PC. I use a 5 metre USB cable to copy movies to the internal HDD, and use a 250gig USB caddy plugged into it for all my documentaries. |
