Default NEC NDR-50 DVD recorder

I have a problem with the above devise after accidently leaving the tray open overnight.
The room where it was got very cold and I think it triggered the dew ??protection system.
Cutting a long story, I removed the player to a warmer room and left it powered up for a couple of days untill the display finaly went through its normal start up routine.
It played a DVD ok but there was no sound from the RCA outs.
I cannot test the Co-Axial out or the optical at the moment so I am not sure if they are working.
I have gone right thru the handbook trying to see if it or I have an audio setting incorrect but I cant find anything.
I got caught with this just recently on an el-cheapo player requiring the audio output to be selected.
This played has only been used to copy video tapes to DVD so thats why I dont normally have it connected to an amp.
I havent yet tried to copy a disk from tape to see if it can still record ok as I havent had a chance to relocate the video.
This is well out of warranty so thats no help.
