| Is the pub open yet? | Hi guys Just wondering how the progress is going in getting the board restored prior to the hardware failure . I don't need anything in particular, but just interested to hear how things are going. Cheers AussieM8 |

| Administrator | our hard drives are in transit from the Netherlands to Australia at the moment. once they arrive I will be hand delivering them to the data recovery facility and they should be able to give us an answer as to where we stand fairly quickly. the cost is the concern as I am hoping it is a reasonably staright forward recovery otherwise we are in a bit of trouble. but I will advise members once we have further information |

![]() | Thanks for the information Admin and all the work. I remember a while back we were told the database size was around 25gb? Just out of curiosity, what was the HDD & backup setup? Some sort of Raid with redundancy/fault tolerance? I see you said the disc/hard backup was corrupted - how unlucky can you get... Cheers, RHCP.

| galleries.wickedweasel.co | i've used data recovery services in sydney a few times and I think the price has always been about $1200 mark but I think there are a few new players that seems to be competative. unfortunately you cannot send it to one to get a quote and send it to another. no one would touch it once its been opened by someone else. |

| Is the pub open yet? | What about a contra deal with some board advertising for the data recovery company? I would think that if someone was able to recover the data in return for banner ads, they would have access to thousands of clients who are (or should be) tech-savvy users. I'm sure this is something admin has probably looked into - I see it as a win-win situation (mind you, I'm not in business myself, so there are probably other issues to consider ) |

I'm sure if you need extra funds to restore the site to its former glory then members would/ should be willing to donate. I will! Even if we run a competition for donated prizes??? Mick ![]()

| I am NOT the Messiah! | Out of curiosity what was the host system, type of drives and type of raid controller involved in this sorry tail. I just hope the support staff in the Netherlands did not make things worse trying to repair the array. I’ve seen a number of problems with early Perc 3 controllers where they fail to report a failed drive removing the opportunity to swap out a failed drive before a second fails and leaves you in the poo and looking for tapes. |

I find that its usually the corp oriented or non-technical peopel that will opt for paying to have things recovered. I dont think they'd be interested. a fundraser of some kind's a good idea

| Is the pub open yet? | I think he means that "corporate" people have the CASH to pay for it and technical people (like us!) will have a crack at it ourselves with the view that the data could potentially never be recovered ![]() My HDD crashed a year or so ago and I looked into it and it was going to costs $990 to recover. I would have liked to get everything back, but it wasn't worth a grand to do it. |

aussie8 hit it on thte nail mick, would you spend $1000 + to recover the data off the hard disk drive from your current computer if the hard disk drive died? most tech saavy people will know where to obtain the files lost. the only thing that they wouldnt be able to recover would be personal photos and videos...

it really depends whats on it mate, if it was of high importance or sentiment, perhaps, otherwise no. My current main pc has loads of info that I use daily so I'd definately look around at prices to recover it. Being business related it would be classed as a tax input credit. I've used recovery services previously for customers HDD's.

| Administrator | See the thread in general chat about this. I am sending the drives to andrew who is taking them to a melbourne based data recovery centre who will be having a preliminary look at them to see what the problem is and they will go from there. i will close this thread and we will try and keep it in the other thread Thanks Paul |
