Yes very pleased. I just hooked up the BF and all is good as well. I just can't believe even the BF wouldn't connect to the laptop.

I found that my Greywolf software 0863b software "locked up" or froze overnight.

Is this normal ? - Grey Wolf Midnight was at least not doing this.

I was hoping that Iwas not going to be slave to a machine. Last thing I want to do is to have do software restarts and the like. It was bad enough not getting card updates and sticking the card back int an Irdeto box.

Please, what is the experience of other members here with the same setup..

It is your setup.

try a pc running win2003 with all the updates done and about 40000000000000 licences.

oh...and don't expect it to run crap like folding at home etc.

no firewall software no virus checker etc etc...just a dedicated machine.

no screen savers or power save features to kick in the middle of the night.

blah blah blah......

All this has been covered so many times where people blame the software.

Thanks z80

I am using Windows2000.

Going to get another laptop on Tuesday and after I find a copy of Windows server 2003 I will load that on it.
Yes it will be dedicated machine and I will keep all that peripheral software off it.

Sounds like this is the answer to stabilise my setup.

Thanks again

HI Chaps
I have a wireless rs232 to tcp/ip adaptor bought from here -
the orange one in top right corner.
does not support real com mode only tcp/ip.
I suppose it wont work in place of a BF430 then ?
Just want to check before building another season for nothing.
Regards Clanser

No it wont work instead of a BF unit.

The BF unit has a few extra features one being the real com mode.
863 was written by a great man, and was written purely for the BF use.
and the model BF mentioned (i forget now) are factory modded 863 friendly (the button inside the BF unit under the baby board on the motherboard).
It would still be worth you doing the research as 863 and a BF unit will give a stable setup, so stable it has a client limit to avoid it being abused.

The issue that Leroy was having may have been due to the com port even tho it was a real com port and not a virtual one (atleast that's the way I read it ) .. Some RS-232 ports do not supply power through them - a good way to test this is to plug in an old serial mouse - start up the pc and if necessary use te add hardware wizzard to see if it gets picked up. There is a registry hack that can also be done if the software is MSDOS based that can help the issue. It may only be W98 that requires the hack I'm not sure.

I have played around with 2-lvl fsk interfaces on RS-232 ports and found the hack had to be done for some software to work and also with some PCI-RS232 cards I had to modify the interfaces to be powered by battery as the ports would NOT output power no matter what.

If anyone wants - I will dig up some more info I have on this..

James
