I have just purchased a 'chinese unit' which came with iG08 on one SD card and also Tomtom on a second SD card but the Tomtom is an older version that does not give full post code address (UK). I don't like the iG08 system and much prefer Tomtom.

I know that this is an Australian forum but there seems to an awfull lot of info and expertise re. wince 5.0 and the chinese head units.

My question is what is the latest software (Tomtom) that I can load on my SD card with UK / western Europe maps. I appreciate that the UK is a long way from Australia but I just thought someone might know.

Thaks in advance for any replies.

    Regards

    Ron

Do you mean what maps are available, or what navcore software?

The latest software application should run on your chinese unit. the application is the same everywhere.

here is a chart on another forum that shows which map versions are compatible with which devices.

No real expertise here - but I went down the same path as you and got everything pretty much working after a few tries.

    1) Try the two different ways of putting tomtom on your system (hollowman tutorial and downunder tute). I tried one method and got the maps not found error - tried the other one and it worked.

    2) In terms of not enough memory try using 2d maps, no terrain etc. Fairly sure this can be done by editing a .ini file in the tomtom directory. See if you can get the app going. If you have unlocked your device use the task manager application, or res info application, to see what is running, how much memory you have etc.

Look here for these apps. see hollowman post number 62

    had trouble getting this running.

Trying to install on my Navig8r G35 GPS running WinCE5.0 any help appreciated.

Tried both Hallowmans tutorial. As well as Downunder35m method.

Hallowmans method does not work. Keeps telling me "not enough memory"

I used Downunder35m tutorial from post one. It loads up in German with a few cryptic messages. Then exits back to navigator menu. On second run get different cryptic German error messages then something about active-sync. Then loads web browser and trys to connect to the internet for some unknown reason.

Any ideas on getting this running on my GPS or know what I am doing wrong?

FWIW I had this problem too with the same Downunder install. Mine is a cheap Chinese 5" unit running Windows CE5 The German Messages talk about not finding a map and about downloading a free map. The download fails and it goes back to the nav menu. It turned out that I had the wrong map version installed for a WinCE PDA I had 845 2661 installed which is not for PDAs I got rid of that and installed and activated 845 2662. It still booted up in German but allowed me to access the TomTom menu screens this time and change the language. I had problems with a "No GPS Device" message, but that seems to have corrected itself after I looked at different COM ports. It still finished up using the default COM1 port though.

Do you have NOTE_PRJ.dll in your navigator directory? Good luck in getting Tomtom to run properly with wince6 and also on double din units.
Why not try Igo or Prino instead.

I also have a 7" chineese unit, but can't get TomTom running on it?
Could you zip the files on your SD card and send them to me?
Maybe I would be able to get it going?
Or at least point me in the right direction to what and where I can get
    the files needed???????
I have iGo8, nDrive and Amigo working ok on it, maybe we could swap????

    Hi all,

I have a DVD especial for my car with WinCE 5.0 and IGO8 software with Brazil map. I really want TomTom or NDrive. I tried to install TomTom, however I got an error message (NOT ENOUGH MEMORY AVAILABLE). In another forum they said that this problem is due to a invallid point, however could not get the solution. Some one have TomTom or NDrive available for using in my DVD??

    King regards

I've got a chinese 7" DVD/GPS unit and when I try to run tomtom fromt he SD-CARD I'm getting 'not enough memory' error message. Only after I put the map on there. Previous to that when there was no map, it was in german but did seem to work (telling me I have no map).

Anyone have similar problem? Any ideas how to resolve it?

    Hi everyone.

I also have one of those no-brand Chinese double din units (check my post: )

I managed to get Tomtom going on my unit (yeah!!!!)
Anyway just wanted to share what I did (please, bear in mind that I am not knowledgeable about this PNA, PDA or whatever devices and WinCE's so in case you have doubts, I may not help you very much).

Before that, could anyone help me to find Iberia maps that work with this version of Tomtom (7.910.9185)? I tried many but the SW doesn't find the maps.... It only works with the supplied Australia version (will I need to reinstall everything but using Iberia maps from start?)

    Ok, so:

Like many of you I searched (and searched and searched....) for ways to install and use Tomtom from microSD card (in my case, the unit uses a microSD). Like many of you I also had problems related to "no map found" and after successful installation, "not enough memory".

I tried hollowman's tutorial but with no luck. (maybe the below described will work for hollowman's directions too; please read on)

So, faced with little alternatives, I decided to format my microSD card. I am using Windows 7, 64 bit. For settings, I used FAT and "predefined size" (sorry, my windows is in Portuguese so I don't know the exact translation). I disabled the option of quick format, BTW.

After formatting I repeated Downunder35m's tutorial. This time it worked (not it seemed to find the map) but had the low memory problem, so often described.

After digging around in many forums I risked on copying MapSettings.cfg (available on tomtom’s folder) to the root of the card (sorry guys but don't have a clue in which forum I got this idea from....).

Also, I opened CurrentMap.dat inside tomtom's folder and edited the path to Australia map.
While in my device it shows "Storage Card", I found out (using MioPocket BTW) that it was identified as "StorageCard" (no spaces in between).

After successful installation I peeked at the MapSetting file and noticed an exclamation point was added (! \StorageCard\Australia_830_2290\). Don’t know what this means but maybe it’s related to the SW finding the maps…

So, for those of you, who are still having problems, please try the above steps.

Hope it may help you in anyway.

    Congrats Love2dance!

I've got a Chinese double din too. It has been the source of a week of sleepless night in trying to get the thing to run TomTom.

I can totally relate to the searching (and searching and searching....) for ways to install and use Tomtom from the SD card and having problems with what seems to be endless messages of "no map found" and "not enough memory".

I did a re-format, and reinstalled via downunder's tutorial. The first time I activated the map wrong and got the red screen. It forwarded me to the voucher screen and showed my invalid map title. So I know the thing can find my map. I did put the appropriate address in the CurrentMap.dat file.

Anyway, I rekeygened the map and got the "not enough memory" message again. The only thing I don't have is the MapSettings.cfg file. I'm not getting far enough in the program for one to get created.

    Any Ideas?

    Hi one_ton.
Sorry for the delay (I've been away).

If you are missing MapSettings.cfg, maybe other important files are missing.
Don't know if you have solved your problem already.
If not, what I could do is send you all the files I have (after installation). You could try and copy them to you SD/microSD card (don't know which one you have) and see if that works.
In alternative I can send you a copy of your missing file (don't know if it will solve your problem, though)

The only limitation I see here is in the file that contains you UniqueDevice ID. Did you manage to obtain such file (this comes following TT installation)?

If so, simply replace mine with yours. (you will need that ID to crack the maps)

    Never hurts to try.

In case you wan't my files, please P.M. (haven't use any file transfering system yet; in case anyone else wants these files, I will see how to post a link for the files)

    Take care.

Sorry for insisting but, as mentioned in my previous post (#74), could anyone help me to find Iberia maps that work with this version of Tomtom (7.910.9185) wince5?

For anyone who is having trouble with TomTom stopping after a minute it is definately to do with power settings. I tried to change the registry settings on my 7" (chinese) Mesada unit with no success. To make the opening interface a bit more civilised I put the Cemenu from CemForum on the SD card and thus got access to the CE control panel. This was not possible in the original setup of the unit. After setting the Power Settings to "Never" on all boxes the 1 minute stoppages were no more. These settings have to be redone after a hard reset.
At the same time I was able to get the sound to work as the volume setting on default is off on this unit.
It would seem that TomTom requires access to these setting ,at least on this unit where the NavAndGo stuff does not.
I hope that this is some help to somone.
    Regards Dennis.
PS Primo is still the best but the fun is getting them to work, not necessarily using them. D

Thx Downunder, and everyone else for there input. I got Tom Tom to work on my Mio A430 by installing it to my internal flash. I used Downunders Tutorial (post 74) to get it to work. I had to install it to the internal flash as my GPS does'nt have an external SD slot. My Mio is unlocked using Dalaniks Shell Unlock here at Visual - Mio Moov GPS unlock/shell. My wife is already sick of the YODA voice . I have also got Igo 8.3 and Primo working as well. THX AGAIN GUYS..
