Default OK, I'm pretty nervous here...

New to the forum and getting ready to update USA map on my GO730. I've read through the posts/threads and I think I have the concept, but just want to be sure of steps I need to take and the order so I don't screw up what I have. Made a backup of unit with windows Explorer (Win 7) and I have an 8GB SDHC card I can use (if possible?) to make sure everything works before I add the new map to the unit.

    My unit lists the following:

    GO730
    Map North America v830.2284 2GB
App 8.351 (is this the Navcore version?)

    I have downloaded:

    North America v855.2884 2GB
    Fast Activate 1.6

On the unit there is a "Map" folder, but with just one file --North_America_2GB.tlv?

There is also another folder-- "North_America_2GB" with lots of files. So do I need anything else ....besides some step by step instructions to proceed

My thanks to all for your willingness to "share the knowledge".
    Best regards,
    Kico

Yes, 8.351 is your navcore version. You can leave that as is, no need to update it. I suggest you download the latest and the new v860.3101 North America map if you can.

Here is all you need to do:

    1. Using windows explorer, open your device directory and delete the old map folder(s)
    2. Create a new folder and rename it "North_America". Extract the new map and copy across the contents into this folder
    3. Copy paste fastactivate.exe into the root of the device directory
    4. Run fastactivate.exe making sure you run each of the 4 options in order

I should also add, for your particular model, if you prefer to use the SDHC card, then firstly using Windows Explorer copy the entire contents of your device directory into the SD card then proceed with the above steps. Note that whenever you have the SDHC card inserted into your device it will only read what is on the card. It won't even look at the internal memory.

My grateful thanks Lemonfish . It worked perfectly even though I was unable to find the v860.3101 North America map...maybe someone can point me?

I had to use v1.6 of fastactivate, even though v1.7 showed itself as a .rar file, but there was nothing to extract after downloading--I tried several locations for downloads and they all had the same issue.

Probably just my lack of experience.
    Best regards,

Great to hear you got it working well!

The rar file needs to be extracted using WinRar, and I take it you don't have that program installed. Nevertheless, you don't need Fastactivate version 1.7 at this stage.

I will now post a new link of the latest version as a zip file in the thread.

A .RAR file is a compressed file that needs to extract the files.

Here is in zip format, so you can just unzip or extract the file within Windows - no need to use a program like WinRaR here
