Default TUTORIAL: Australia v865 maps, voices, Aus POIs & safety cams on any TomTom device

This tutorial is for anyone who wants to either:
    (A) update their TomTom with the latest Australia v865 map and safety cams, or
    (B) install everything from scratch with a clean install.

The maps included in this thread are:
    (1) Australia 865.3245 which is the full featured map that includes IQ routes & ALG,
    (2) Australia 865.3246 which is the basic map with no IQ routes or ALG that will work on any navcore version.

So the first thing to do is check your navcore version. You can do this either on the device menu under Version Info, or you can check the navcore version in TomTom Home when the device is connected to your computer. If your navcore version is 8.2xx or higher, then you may use the full featured 865.3245 map which gives you IQ, ALG & Cspeech.
Otherwise, if your navcore version is below 8.2xx, then you need to either upgrade your navcore by using an SE navcore (such as 8.562 SE), or use the basic 865.3246 map without the full features.

    (A) To simply update your map to the latest Australia v865 map, follow these steps:

    1) Connect your device to your computer via USB.
    2) Look in My Computer, go to your TomTom drive, backup the contents of your TomTom. Alternatively, you can do this using Windows Explorer.
    3) Delete the map folder.
    4) Make a new folder (still in the TomTom drive) naming it Australia and copy across the contents of the latest Australia map from the download link found below.
    5) Download the latest safety cameras (see link below) and copy across the 2 files into the map folder.
    6) Download the latest version of FastActivate Premium Edition. Unzip the file and copy across FastActivate.exe to the TomTom drive (the root of the device).
    7) Run FastActivate.exe from the TomTom drive, clicking on all 4 options in order: update meta, activate maps, patch navcore & home.

    (B) For a complete clean install which involves a format and installing everything from scratch, follow these instructions:

    1) Connect your device to your computer via USB
    2) Look in My Computer, go to your TomTom drive, backup the contents of your TomTom. Then right click on your TomTom drive and format your device.
    3) Install the latest version of TomTom Home
    4) Run TomTom Home, go to updates and download the latest navcore.
    5) Restart TomTom Home and run updates several times until all of them have been completed.
    6) Unplug your TomTom device. Start your TomTom on its own. This will create a new ttgo.bif file which will be needed when activating the map.
    7) Reconnect your TomTom to your computer. Make a new folder (still in the TomTom drive) naming it Australia and copy across the contents of the latest Australia map from the download link found below.
    8) Download the latest safety cameras (see link below) and copy across the 2 files into the map folder.
    9) Copy across the voices folder from your backup or from the download link below into the TomTom drive. (Or you can download voices from TomTom Home). Make sure the folder is called "Voices"
    10) Copy across the POIs from the download link below into the map folder.
    11) Run TomTom Home on your computer and go to the "Operate" function. This may be called "Operate My TomTom" or "Operate My Go" or similar, depending on your model. You may get an error message when doing so, just ignore it. The purpose of running the Operate function in Home at this stage is to create the dll profile needed for patching later.
    12) Shut down TomTom Home.
    13) Download the latest version of FastActivate Premium Edition. Unzip the file and copy across FastActivate.exe to the TomTom drive (the root of the device).
    14) Run FastActivate.exe from the TomTom drive, clicking on all 4 options in order: update meta, activate maps/cams, patch navcore & Home.

All the download links for the files needed are found below:

    - full featured IQ map.

    - basic map.

    - Be sure to check the latest posts for the latest updates.

    - Be sure to check the latest posts for the most recent version.

I'd also like to add... as far as I know, this method will work with most TomTom models, except the GO 1000, GO 1005 and all VIA models - at this stage anyway.
I have also heard that the very recent TomToms won't able to be updated in this way, but time will tell...

    Default TT One V3

Hi, I have a TT One V3. How do I find out what the Navcore version is?

In the System Information I can find these lines:

    ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
    ApplicationVersion=9369

I recently upgraded my device using TT HOME and this is the version number it upgraded me to.

Can I use the Navcore 8.562 SE program to upgrade my TT One V3 successfully? That is, will it work on my TT One V3?

    Cheers

Your navcore is 8.010 which is the latest official navcore for your model. You can use the basic Australia 865.3426 with that version.

Yes, you can use the 8.562 SE navcore for your TT ONE v3, and with it, the 865.3425 map.

To use the 8.562 SE navcore, follow section (B) of the tutorial. Just leave out steps 4 & 5 and instead copy the contents of this navcore onto the root of the device, then proceed with the remaining steps.

Yes, you can update it, no problem.

I believe the TomTom Start uses the 8.544 navcore - which will of course run the full featured 865.3245 map.

Smile Can I restore from Backup if this all goes astray

    Hi all,

I have only done updates via TomTom ONE but want to carry out this procedure as I want to update to the later maps.

My Navcore will need updating so from what I read I will have to carry out most of section B's instructions.

As there is a format of the TomTom involved I am a bit scared and have a few questions before I take the plunge:

    1) In step 2) instead of formatting the TomTom, can I just delete all the files and folders? (& if so would I have to view hidden files and folders and delete these too?)

and if a delete all won't do and I have to format the TomTom,
    2) Do I format the TomTom as FAT, FAT32 or NTFS and do I give the drive a label or leave it blank?

    3) I have backed up the TomTom using Acronis True Image. If my update doesn't work, can I restore the unit to exactly how it was before I started by restoring my backup?

If it is relevant, I have a TomTom ONE 30 Series Text To Speech 1Gb (Model 125S 130S).

**By the way even though its unrelated, what exactly is my TomTom, a 125S or a 130S and is this a TomTom v4 or TomTom v8? TomTom couldn't answer this question for me.

    Thanks in advance!

I have never had to format the drive just delete the files.
To backup the files it's just a matter of copying the files from your tomtom to your pc.

Personally what I would do is if your tomtom has a sd slot is to copy all of the new files and maps to an sd card and run the keygen only on the sd card. Then with the sd card in the tomtom it should boot from it and run the new maps, this leaves the tomtom untouched if you ever need to return it for repairs.
Depending on the original navcore it may only boot from a sd card and not sdhc.

    1) Formatting or deleting all files in your TomTom drive is the same thing for the purpose of a clean install. There are no hidden files used in TomToms. You have nothing to worry about when doing a quick format.

    2) Use FAT when formatting a device up to 2Gb, which applies to your model. For devices over 2Gb, use FAT32.

    3) Yes, restoring from your backup will bring the device back to exactly the same state it was before formatting. I prefer using Windows Explorer to back up files just by copy pasting, rather than using other programs which may corrupt the data.

** Your serial number determines what your exact model is. Go to this site:

    Hi Lemonfish,
I have followed your tutorial but run into troubles
    my device: 'app 7.130'
-downloaded 'Australia_865_3246', extracted to folder 'Australia' (folder already there, deleted everything from it, then extracted 3246 to it)
-downloaded 'safety cam AU 5258' extracted to 'Australia' as theres no map folder
-downloaded fastactivate.exe, extracted to root drive ('internal'), run 1st three options ok, then when i press 'tomtom home' i get error "tomtom home profile dll not found"
If i start my tomtom, i get "no maps found" error.
Please advise what am I doing wrong
    thanks

edit: Somehow, with a lot of playing with "tom tom home" i got to the stage with error "this map cannot be used on this device", and after some more updating of tom tom home and patching with fastactivate, i got through where everything works fine, or it looks that way.
    Thanks for tutorial lemonfish.

I think that's where the problem was... the navcore you had was too old for the 865.3246 map. It will only work with version 7.9xx or above. But since you updated your device through TomTom Home, it would have also updated your navcore.

Glad you didn't give up and got it working!

I see from your that you solved this by removing (unticking) the POI showing on the map.

    Default re TomTom Via 160

    Hi All
I am new to all this & am thinking of getting a TomTom Via 160 though I saw Lemonfishes note re not being able to update the maps on all Via's.

Is this the case that if I got a Via 160 I wouldn't be able to update the maps using fastactivate etc & Lemonfishes tutorial.

If this is the case any suggestions as to what model I wanted to keep it under $200, I wouldn't be using it all the time just for the odd trip. Was looking at Dick Smiths purely because they have a good range of TomTom's.

    Regards ...

If they still sell any of the XL models, then I would suggest one of them. The Dick Smith website has the XL 250 for $189 and the XL 340 for only $139.

Yes, v865 maps are the latest at present.

865.3245 is the full featured IQ map
865.3246 is the basic map which will work on any navcore
