Default Total Newbie-need to download Europe maps for TOMTom 520

Hi, I've just discovered this site and many of the contributors seem realy helpful. However, I am a bit confused by the amount and complexity of some information.
Basically, I have a TomTom 520 with SD card slot. I have UK only maps on my internal memory and don't want to mess with that or delete it. However, I would like to download and use the latest Western Europe map onto a 2GB or 4GB memory card ( I have both spare). Could someone give a total newbie some very simple guidance. I don't even know what a Navcore is but, from what I have read I assume it refers to the "version 9.430" which I can see on my screen.
I am a bit confused on how to download maps. I have tried and I keep getting asked to download various things from ilivid/linksave/usenet.nl. Do I have to download/subscibe to these. Grateful for any assistance.

    Thanks

EDIT- And how would I get speed cameras enabled too?DO they come with the maps.

I've now managed to download this map:

I have copied the whole of my internal drive to a 4GB card, also copied the new map folder to the SD card. I have also copied the Fast Activate programme to the SD card and pressed on each of the buttons in turn. However I keep getting the message

"Problem with Map- You cannot use this mapon this device:Western-and -central-europe-2GB-573. I have tried running the fastactivate programme several times tono avail.

    Any ideas?

Is a meta code for that map available - is there a .dct file in the map folder after activation?
    Is the Navcore patched?
You should use the latest version of FA premium.

Thanks, can't see a .dct file. I.m using Fast Activate Premium v1.8.8.5. I'll see if I can find a more up to date one.

As Downunder pointed out: "Is a meta code for that map available"?

I just checked. The answer is NO. So no matter what you do, a .dct file will not be created and this map cannot be activated. Therefore you need to choose a different map - one which has the meta available. Lucky for you there is one:

You need the Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB_890_4222 map, as this map currently has a meta code available. Look in the following thread for the download link:

    TomTom GO 730, Navcore 9.051c, 64Mb RAM, Australia 925.5412, Bootloader: 5.5250
    TomTom ONE v1, Navcore 9.170SE, 32Mb RAM, Australia 925.5412, Bootloader: 5.5244

Thanks both. I didn't know how to find out if a metacode was available soI was a bit stumped. The map I downloaded as a torrent from another site. However, most of the links here seem to suggest I have to download further software. For this map, for example, will I have to subscribe to Usenet.nl?

Thanks again, as I said I'm new to this so hopefully have more luck with this other map.

No. Just click on the link, enter the password (which is kilroy) and click on the single arrow download button. Then download each part separately.
Use WinRaR to extract part 1 - the other parts will be extracted automatically.

I'm sorry but I'm stil a bit lost with downloading the file.Which one is the "single arrow download button?"

Is it the one that says Download RSDF or "regular Download". The arrows next to the files leads me to a page that asks me to download filefactory premium.
Thanks for your patience but I'm going around in circles and keep getting pop ups.

Ok, here are the simple instructions for complete newbies

    1) Go to post #16 of the above thread or just click here:

    2) Click on the map Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB_890_4222 or just click on this link:

    3) Enter the password kilroy (if you haven't already), then click on the single arrow.

    4) If an advertising banner comes up at any time, click on "Offnen" to remove it.

    5) You will see all the download links for this map in parts (11 parts in total). You must download each part separately, so it may take you several hours or days! Click on the first arrow and a FileFactory page will come up.

    6) If you get the message "All free download slots are in use..." then you have to try again later. Unfortunately you need to be patient.

    7) As mentioned earlier, use WinRaR to extract part 1, and WinRaR will automatically extract all 11 parts into one folder.

If you still can't download this map (if this site is busy), you need to do some googling to find more download links elsewhere. Good luck

5), 6) : Register for free at tomtest.net, paste the Filefactory links into the "Multi premium link online generator" (Tools).
In return you get high speed premium account like download links - no wait, no restriction.
Only "downside": You should download the files one by one, starting multiple downloads will cause errors.
A 12 part map should be on your PC in less than 40min if you have a fast connection.

I've given up on Filefactory and can't seem to get Tom test to work for me. I've downloaded another map from a torrentsite (Western and centralEurope 2G v 890.4234. This appears to have a metafile in the mapfile but I still can't get a .dct file to generate.Am I missing something. DO I need to get a different metafile/code and if so how do I get it?

Thanks again for your patience with a newbie.
