Default Starting from a corrupted device

    Hi all.
First post, and i'm very excited to be here. I think I can contribute as much as I hope to take from you all, haha.

Well, lets dive right in. I did some searching, but its very hard to find my specific question, also I have eye issues, so mass reading can be a pain.
Anyway, I was updating my parents GPS I got them for a present a few years ago, and they love. Its a TomTom ONE XL with iQ i think, About 3-4 years old? I can check when I get home.

Problem is, I was trying to update it for them. Used the official TomTomHome, which failed, and resulted in a corrupt File Allocation Table.
As such it 'appears' my device now has a couple of terrabytes in it, instead of a few hundred meg.
I can format the device, this is no problem.

My question is related to how I'd go about restoring things? I foolishly didnt take a backup. I should know better.

So, if I have a brand new formatted device, 100% blank in every way where do I go from here? I just want my mums 50th present to work again. Latest navcore (correct term?) and maps would be a bonus.

    Thank you all.

    Scythe.

Get the formatter from SDCARD.org - format the TT with the standard settings in the tool.
Connect to Home and Update until you got the 9.430 Navcore (Home calls it application).
Add the map of your choice - I assume AU 895.4438
Use FastActivate to patch the NC and activate the map.
Add personal conten like voices, cams and so on.
Make a full backup using Windows Explorer.
    Tomtom GO730 ,Navcore 9.004 ,Bootloader 5.5256 ,Map :Australia 845.2661
ttmaps and Tomplayer on 16GB SDHC class6

-So; low level format (as i was planning to do),
-hope that HOME still sees it as a GPS
(what determines home detecting it as a GPS, for curiosity?)
-Keep updating to latest navcore from HOME
-Find the latest map, I guess i'll find a link around here?
-FastActivate the maps and NavCore (i already researched this bit!)

    Thank you!!!!

Question though, I notice things like cameras and stuff are paid extras, where do I get these from in the same way as above?
And is there a way to make my own camera chart, so my parents get camera warnings places I know mobile cameras often park?

Thats all extra though, for now i'm excited to get home and fix my mums GPS, I'll go visit the old girl tonight, she'll be so excited.

Well that seems to have done it!

no more map errors, device looks clean, boots MUCH faster than the old navcore. I cant thank everyone enough.

Im going to test it today then give it back to the parents.
It failed copying about 7 or 8 times, leaving fragments around. But I just kept repeating the process and eventually it went smoothly (probably a bad USB cable, its a $2 store retractable piece of crap I normally only use for charging).

wow, an up to date GPS in the family.... Im going to go drive on the changed freeways an roundabouts and hear it actually work! lol.
