And has the recent update to enable the PVR function made those bought (pre April 2012) without the PVR function equal to the ones sold preactivated from UEC?
Read that over 3 or 4 times quickly, what a mouthfull.

I stand unequivicably behind everything I say, I just dont ever remember saying it !!
okay all heres the update on remotes
you need a pvr box allready activated or the code.
I am yet to get any info from altech/uec about getting the code on its own.
it seems to be less painfull going to the dentist than dealing with them![]()

Sorry to hear it cant operate the way we hoped it would and as for ever getting information from UEC, I certainly dont expect that to happen anytime soon.

I am hoping that they are legally required to provide the code. On the other hand it is pretty poor that Odrock haven't been bothered to work out how to derive the unlock code even though they manufactured the remote.
FYI, I just ordered a Vast PVR Remote from this website below. It is the cheapest that I've seen so far.
I have no interest with the web site, just want members to save some money.
"Vast SatTV Set Top Box to PVR Upgrade Kit $53 + $6.95 Postage - OzB 3 days or 50 units only"

As expected.
I can't see UEC parting with codes, as each code is generated based on the individual registered owner of the VAST decoder's details, so you would need to obtain a separate code for every person buying a remote.... and they would need to supply you with their personal details in addition to the VAST smartcard number to submit to UEC.
Somehow, I don't see that happening.
The only hope would be if UEC relaxed the code requirement.

As someone who has designed similar programs I can say with almost complete certainty that the individual owner's details are not relevant to the unlock code. The only relevant thing would be the smartcard number.
The alphabetic scratch card sequence is a once only entry in a database that simply verifies that the applicant is someone who has bought the Altech pvr remote and that they can be supplied with an unlock code. Then the website software inputs the smartcard number into a function that will calculate a 16 digit numeric unlock code such that when the code and the smartcard number are mathematically manipulated in some way a boolean value of true will be generated. The user then inputs the unlock code into the pvr screen, and a function called such that when the unlock code is entered it returns a boolean value of true and the firmware is unlocked. It would actually a bit more complicated than this but this is the gist of it I reckon.

Question is will Vast issue only a Registration code without a UEC remote control ?

seeing as the odrok remote was a not so good deal I have access to some genuine vast pvr upgrade kits (remote and code) limited time for $45 plus $7.00 post anywhere in oz.![]()

My Vast registration code would not reveal the activation code, just kept coming up with error 102. Thanks to UEC for sorting this out by sending me an activation code.
Just thought i'd throw that one in.
These IR codes are as secret it seems as the formulae for Coka Cola and the 'Herbs and Spices' of Kentucky Fried chicken so unless UEC is feeling benevolent, I say again I cant see it happening.
Just lets hope other manufactures of IR operated devises dont go down this same path and 'Lock Out' 3rd party R/C's.

It's nice to have a choice but what's wrong with the UEC remote? I kinda like the action of the buttons, they seem to be set out in appropriate positions and it's powered by AA rather than AAA batteries -- all good stuff. It works fine.
