| r3v3r53 3ng1n33r | sat broadband is renowned for its latency. You can still transfer a file fast, but as you say the ping times make it unsuitable for voip. One of the main links for australia though is the southern cross cable. Lots of interesting reading on its site. Its currently runing and 240gbps and they say can be upgraded to 2.4tbps. I think it introduces about 120ms lag from one end too the other. There is no way to send data faster around the world, even a PSTN international phonecall introduces some noticable audio lag. http://www.southerncrosscables.com/ |

![]() | There wouldn't be much International IP traffic going over satellite links these days. Can't you get ADSL or cable? (you don't have your location filled in) You're always going to get bad latency over a Sat connection. |

![]() | The only thing faster than light/radio/electricity is by using a sub-space transmitter like the ones in star trek. Unfortunately with satellite you will always get lag, so voip, games, even surfing will be laggy but lightning fast for large data packets such as big downloads. It's the nature of the beast. You're worse off on dial-up. ![]() |
