Default Choice Help "Newbie VoIP SetUp"

G'day all,

Ive been reading a lot of threads on setting up VoIP with different ISP's and think Im going to make the jump. Ive come up with a couple of different scenarios I think will work but not sure and would like your opinion as Im not sure if they will be any good. Please correct me if Im overlooking something -

1 -

Naked DSL iiNET - Naked Home 2 - $60 per month

Minitar MVA11A ATA VoIP - Approx $75

Billion 5200GR4 $65 or Billion 5200N $122 -

Normal Uniden Cordless Home Phone

Or option 2 -

Naked DSL same as above

Billion 7401VGPR3 $141

Normal Uniden Cordless Home Phone

Could someone let me know if option 2 will work as I really want to cut down on hardware but dont want to compromise any quality being in an all-in-one type app. Plus Im a little confused, not sure if the normal home phone will work (non VoIP).

Thanks in advance.

Option 2 is fine if that's what you prefer. When you say normal home phone do you mean your Uniden cordless as VOIP phone? If that's what you asked then yes it will. Any "normal home" phone will work with those units as they have ATA built-in. In case you were referring to normal telephone line service - it won't be available as you are signing to naked service.
As far as compromising quality goes, don't worry. The quality will be fine.

Thanks for the info fromaron. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing anything cos it all seems a little too good to be true as im currently being stung by a big pond........

Yeah Im using the uniden as the voip phone hence the need for the ATA inbuilt or seperate unit.

I was only a little worried about the intergration as Ive been a little frustrated with a few purchases lately.. things freezing... not recording.. loosing data etc.... all cos i think some companies think it better to get products out before there "REALLY" fully functional "without bugs" and use us as the feedback test pilots.

Anyone got any thoughts on the Billion modems/routers??

Cheers.

Shouldnt be a problem , I used to have an all in one unit which unfortunately crapped its pants and I now have a seperate modem and ATA. Its just another thing to have to find a power point for.

Have a look at this site to compare costs

You might also want to look here and make sure you choose a provider who offers LNP (Local Number Portability), so if you need to change providers/find a better deal, at least your not stuck with the old mob or forced to change numbers

Thanks fernbay, I looked into the differences between most providers (wish i looked at your link earlier, would have made it quicker...ah well) and for my circumstances, iinet should do. I also paid a little more for connection so im not in contact, can change ISP if better things come along... 24 months is a rather long time in the tech industry. Plus iinet support LNP which is great for my better half...always on the phone...and doesnt have to tell hundreds about the change... seems good all round...
