With purple CAM pics come for 10sec glitch then go for 5-10min in a cycle.
But if you take it out of purple CAM while there is still pics
and place it in the internal card slot it will keep getting pics but won't update.
I think it's the updating that kills it. Needs the purple CAM to update

Yeah I went to latest 1.20 firmware to get it going, no luck with 1.19

I guess it was worth learning to flash those old cams I had after all. Will need to monitor the heat of card this way though.

maybe someone could tell us a better channel to have box on when not being viewed. The heat issue is only an issue when no pix or an error on screen. Can anyone help here?

Kick started in cam but with 120 then "F" changed to 127 and card in slot.

For those worried about heat in cards, 3volt mod on strong = approx 40c max. Not a problem at that temp. Without the mod the card becomes so hot that you touch the contact section to your lip and it will cause a burn. With the mod the same method is just luke warm. Google strong mod or look in the decoder section of this forum. Only involves lifting a pin on a chip on the card reader. There are a few different mods but look for the one that lifts one pin from the PCB only. If it dosnt show earlier I will try to post tonight.

I have modded my Strong and card has run only lukewarm in cardslot. Seems to be the freecam itself that makes it run hotter now.

    Yep,
    Strong 4658x
Had 119 and was ok in internal slot pre-crash
    Change to 127p
Put card in purple cam until pics
Yank out and into internal cam
    All good.......so far

Is it still getting updates on 127p firmware though??? If it isn't this isn't a solution is it just an interim fix.

Now I've had a sleep. Here's what I know about the Strong. (Feel free to correct me)

In Oz, we basically have the 4658x and 4653x. These units are 'badged' as a different model number in Europe. The 4558x is compatible with the 4656X and the 4820x model throughout Europe. The 4553x is also compatible with I THINK THE 4654x but because I dont have a 4653x I have never been able to test.

In the past, I have loaded the wrong firmware on the Strong. When this happens, the box will freeze, not start up. DONT WORRY. You will need to get a 232 cable and load via PC to the 9pin on the back of box. The loader program is available from the Strong website. I usually load back on what I know works. then have a crack at another version firmware.

Basically once you know which model is compatible with yours, then you wont have any troubles loading.

Strong Website have official software only. At the moment, 1.20 is the latest. 117, 118, 119 also worked well with the whitey.

On european websites you can get a 'PATCHED' version of software. These versions always end with a 'p' . usually the copy for a 4658x will look something like this : SRT4820x_4656X_127p_20071106.zip
You then unzip, it becomes a .stb file and that's what you load to your box. I do it via a flash drive. You can use rs232 via a PC.

The Patched version of software allows the user in enter hidden menus. These menu's contain the 'Keys'. There are no menu's like this with the Official firmware. Hence the 'p' patched firmware. The firmware has been modified and generally has a few extra features.

The best firmware to run on a box is usually the latest. More compatible etc. But do we all run Vista on our PC's??? Or do some of us run XP, 2000, ME and 95. Why ? Because they work and dont turn every bloody thing on at the same time. Do some of us run a Linux box? again, more control over what we expect to do.

So the 1.20 version is probably the best version to get a Cam going for Irdeto2. Agree. A cam will run hot .

From what I've read in the past 2 days about the updates is, the 1.20 will update but due to fake emm's being sent then the card will fail after 10sec or so. Common Sense said to me , try and find a firmware that doesn't AU (Autoupdate) With the Strongs, that's only been a recent thing. Months ago we had to kickstart a card with the patched firmware then upgrade to official firmware and the card was good for a week. That official firmware was updaing. Maybe if I'd accidently thrown 127P on it back then to kickstart, I may never had lost it?? Who knows. Time will tell.

Both of my boxe have been modified by myself for the 3v. The second box, I actually put a toggle switch in the enable 3v or 5v. Works treat.

I have 2 cams. Diablo and Matrix reloaded. Both work with Gamma. Both worked with AU off, Irdeto EMU off. I re-did a Select card and tested prior to all of this. Select woked perfectly in the Cams with 1.20 version. Then I programed the other file. I couldn't get a pic on my cams at all. No matter what I did, it wouldn't work. I'M NOT SAYING IT WONT FOR YOU, IT DIDN'T FOR ME.

So I would prefer to use the card in my slot so it wont get hot etc and that's why I chased OLD FIRMWARE.

I have 2 Strongs SRT 4658X decoders. So for me, it was it bit easier to manage. From some results that I have read, it will work if you have one only box.

This is how I would do it with one Box

    1. Load (or have) version 1.20 on your Strong box (from official site)
    2. Put card in card slot.
    3. Be on a Strong signal channel that has Irdeto and pull card in/out until a Pic comes. At times it took seconds. At times minutes. Initially, I had to resend a 'Data' CB line to card via Gup 3.5. Not saying you'll have to. But keep it in mind if you never get the Pic.

    4. Once you see a pic, Pull card immediately.
    5. put flash drive in box and select 127p firmware to load. (takes about 20sec)
6.When unit is rebooting, have card in slot.
    7. Pictures instantly.

I still have pics. Not once has it failed. I have QUICKLY turned box off/on to 'resync' audio and pictures appeared immediately.

I am only posting what I have done and how it worked for me. I had no luck with the Cams and believe they will work. My concern was simply the heat factor.

    Good Luck
    Cheers, Saintaholic
