Default Any Old Austar boxes laying around

I've heard if you have an old Austar box laying around and put
a whitey in then update it'll marry the whitey to the box.
Probably posted before to lazy to search.

I don't have the austar box, but from memory before
the firmware update made by Austar I thought whitey wouldn't work in them so I'm
    personally skeptical.

I've heard that if you have an old Austar box laying around and put
it in the mail to someone who turns out to be an undercover
fraud investigator, you get fined thousands of dollars
and a criminal record that could damage your career.

If you want to experiment on equipment provided with your subscription
that's your own business. But if you don't have a subscription you're crazy
to consider handling provider equipment after drawing attention to yourself
like that. Be very careful who you trade with from now on.

I'm shocked how cavalier and complacent people have become about
security. Whenever piracy gets this blatant you know the next countermeasure
    isn't far away.

pheggie does say that he doesn't have an old A* box, and after all who would want one? Their tuner is appalling and they take forever to change channels (so I'm told). Good for keeping the door open on a windy day.

B4L, you are the naughtiest person I know. You would take candy from a kid and sell it at one of the Sunday markets.

Why use an Austar box, that's illegal.

Hills industries used to sell them with an Aurora setup.

I have one that was purchased outright.

They may still have some old ones lying around....never know, but as said above, they are an aweful box.

My 8776 works perfectly with aurora card.

    No...I never said that.

You could try this link, it's just as irrelevant an extrapolation from my post as any other link....

Yes but the thread title suggested he might be looking for one (even though he later made clear that he isn't). It's really important that people avoid posting or PMing anything that suggests they have an ex-provider box or are trying to obtain one. It could be used against you as probable cause for a search warrant, if the pay tv provider decides you're worth going after. The other important thing is you don't do anything to make yourself an attractive target, such as suggesting that you are selling such things or in contact with someone who is.

I agree about their receiver quality - I've pulled several of them to bits over the years and the best I can say about them is they're mechanically quite sturdy, have above-average quality power supplies, and nice big fonts for those with bad eyesight. But otherwise they're are unimpressive: average AV quality, underpowered processors, slow, lacking optimisation (no way to skip transponder scan during startup etc). Not to mention Macrovision and all the . Before you waste money on MyStar try some - it gives you the same experience and is much cheaper.
