Nice work, in the next month or 2 when I get a card I`ll more than likely do the same thing to my 5400z with the addition of a small fan aswell.

Arion AF3330 receiver with a whitey works fine in card slot, no heat issues at all & also updates card.

No heat issues for whitey in a UEC720ixAurora or topfield 3200IR but runs very hot in topfield3000 with freecam, so hot the card now has a small blister bubble. Both topfield boxes update whitey and the UEC does as well except occasionally I get a black screen on the UEC, usually after every four hours but a reboot fixes it. Maybe less air is flowing over the card in the confined space of a cam compared to softcam readers?

These cards ppl are calling "whitey" are these the gamma cards?
Does anyone know if a Humax 5400Z will over heat the card or is it just the 1 perticular model that does?

You can call it gamma , whities or whatever you like as no one yet knows exactly what type of cards they are exept the so called sellers & they are not sharing the info & Yes all Humax does have a heating problem with the whitey or gamma as they update the card very well & thats why they overheat.

The IR Ace will work fine with a whitey, but needs something to dissipate the heat. Tech-Junkie suggests a strip of copper tape on the underside of the card. My mate Drysa uses a thin sheet of brass about the same size as the card, that slips in under the card. Solarpoweredwok had a mod to take the 5v rail directly to the reader, rather than via an IC. So, no need to buy another decoder. Your IR Ace will do the job.

No, it doesn't work with the IR-ACE , only for a few minutes, it is the cardreader, also the 5470 ? has the same problem, overheating,
BUT,in the DiZiPia the card gets very hot, but keeps going, for the last 2 mths, and was told by the Vendor, It doesn,t matter, well, it still works in my mates, box

Whats so hard with pulling the card out when you aint watching?
It wont overheat if its sitting out of the box.
Its not like its updating when the box is off anyway.

I for 1, would prefer to leave the card in if possible. To lazy to put the card in and out everytime I want to watch tv or not.
I have just cut the slot in my reader for less heat like Onefella did in the pic posted. I will also be putting a small fan beside the card slot to keep both card and cams cooler. Will post pics when done.

Doing all this and I dont even have a card. Hopefully that`ll change withing 2 months though.

Cheers

Yeh, agree switch off the box, so why all the trouble to keep card from overheating.
Doesnt it cool down when switched off? Maybe standby keeps it hot?
Surely people have better things to do then watch TV all day, the same programs over and over!

What about the people that have payed top dollar for there cards and while there watching there favorite shows there card is blistering away?
Why dont you go and spend alot of hard earned $$$ and see what you`ll say if yours started to blister. If you want to take that chance? by all means, do so. I know I wont be.

I have a Humax 5400 and my whitey works fine, but when i put it in my Strong 4653x the screen goes black after 5mins.
Is this the overheating issue?

MM_VCD that seems like a good idea sealing the foil.....the only question is will it stop airflow over the foil reducing it effectiveness

shlocker if you switch off or pull the card out then the card will not get emk updates and you will eventually loose picture

Hi

When Austech returns. You will be able to search on a thread "Gamma Hot Spot"

All this was discussed.

The foil solution was my idea. It has been improved a little as I have found silver tape used with optical fibre splicing.

But the whole idea is to get heat way from the CPU. Yes the top of the card may not be the best place, but you can only work with what you have.

The foil with heat sink compound on the top of the card distributes the heat over a larger area.

There is also a strong STU fix and a Humax heat sink fix. But as the site is having problems, I don’t have a lot of pictures. lol

This was the Humax fix

I still use a foil card in a cam in a DM7000 to this day. It gets hot, but it still goes

If I find more I will post it

Cheers
