Default Foxtel services off the street

A guy on the street offered me a foxtel service saying that I just needed to buy a satellite. I dont care much for foxtel (who has time for that much TV) so declined but I starting thinking about what he was actually attempting to sell.

Being a techo I like knowing a bit about different technologies did a little searching. It seems foxtel previously used to use Irdeto2 and now use NDS. Since NDS is not broken I thought "was he scamming me for like Chinese foxtel".

My question is not how, but it is technically possible as it appears NDS is solid? or is this a scam?

would have been a play with words as most city folk only know foxtell so his statement telling you all you need is a satellite would lead one to believe its the gamma setup as austar has exactly same channels bar the 7 - 9 and 10

Buying a satellite would be expensive! Cheaper to subscribe to Poxtel for the next million years.

Mate, if someone is offereing you a 'possible' service remember a few things, you have to buy a Dish and a Decoder and the 'card', so a few $$$ there, if you subscribe legit, you get all that stuff anyway..........now when the next generation of counter measures to stop these setups comes, and it will, it might be a 2 years, gee it might be next month, who knows, your service will stop and not work again, if you have a legit setup and your service stops you ring 'em up and say fix it now............it has been said many times over the years, no such thing as 'free' pay TV

It is a risk of $$$ to get something for 'free' yeah makes sense doesn't it

Mate, Take the punt what have you got to loose:
    $80 dish
    $20 LNB
    $120 for Strong Receiver
    10-20m of RG6 cable and a few F connectors
You keep the gear forever for under $300 and have some fun.

Ok the special white card??? Say $400

If it lasts 1 month, you backed the wrong horse, came in 2nd, and no eachway bets here. Whoopee a bad day at the TAB.
If it last 6months and maybe more, you are a winner.
If it dies after 6 months, you still in front.

    Wink

Some of the cards stop working in the Strong 4653's.
The boxes software just isnt up to it but thecards do work in another brand.
