    Personally i disagree.
My partner uses the U4 as her source for TV every single day.
It is the daily driver, gets channel flicked flat out, no problem, doesn't freeze or lock up.
Plays all over our saved Movies and IPTV services.

Android might not be as good as E2 in some areas, but lets not forget when E1 started with the DM7000, it was a horrible box for the first 2 years until firmware more refined.
After 30 channels , the favorite list impossible to move .
    eOnCenter freezes ..

my list with 12 satellite LNB.
4500 only 4 satellite channels. Please would you tell me how to edit them?
2000 channels for editing even impossible.

Have you tried the editing software?

Im not sure how many AU users will be encountering problems with 4000 channels though?
I think for the normal user, the box is fine, sure, always room for improvement, as with every box.... but in general, it does what it says without too much fuss.

Even if all the coding was made public, i'm still not sure how much development would occur,
as new boxes are released almost monthly, and ROM writers just move on to next bit of kit after a short while.
Just look at the M8, 2 years old and no one has really developed it in 12 months.

yes, I've tried all the versions of editing softwares and firmwares.

now scan one X satelite . ok . add 5-favorities
    1-documentary
    2-sport
    3-News
    4-child
    5-etc.......ok

After a week, you want to do a new scan .
    and rescan ok . results.:
    FAV 1
    FAV 2
    FAV 3
    FAV 4
    FAV 5
All favorite channels are lost .

or Without control with beta firmwares, you new scan 8 satellites .. you rejoice .
and look channels and satellities . .....great frustration .
    lost all satelite
and all version sometimes two, sometimes one scan result.:
fav / Service Grop / Sattelite / for HotBird 13E : "No service"

    or u4 find scan result HellesSat 39E , 280 TV channels .
but / fav / Service Grop / Sattelite / u4 show for HellasSat 120 TV channels

    kruegerfreddy,

A link to a post made by yourself on another website is not proof.

Please provide other credible sources to substantiate your claim.

Looking at your post history, I have concerns you may just be here to try and discredit the company/product.

My missus can use it, in fact she wont give it back now
If the unit is not suitable for you kruegarfreddy, then just sell it and move on.
I am really not sure why you are here, to create a user profile only to slag off the U4???
Do you have anything useful to contribute?
Or is the only reason you are here, is because no one listened to you at SmartSTB?

I still text Vivant occasionally and sometimes they text me out of the blue with a new firmware and other info.
And i would love to know how you know the total sales volume of the U4 Quad Hybrid?
Because bulk sales was not handled via Aliexpress, it was direct with Vivant.

I think the point you've missed here KF, is this a not a product from Samsung or Vu+ or Strong
Its a Chinese Start Up, and sure there are a few issues, then again, full retail Strong boxes can have issues.
Our own Foxtel and Austar boxes have issues.

Maybe this is the first Chinese product you have dealt with?
Most here know that the fancy advertising and glossy pictures mean little to how a product preforms.... As they all under preform to what they quote.

I am happy with my U4, id say its more stable that my M8 and also has the added advantage of being able to watch live T or S2 TV.

There is much Technical support already at SmartSTB.
Are you expecting them to solve every single issue you encounter, that isn't covered by the long list of "How to's" already there?

100's of Sat Boxes have come and gone, some got great support, some didn't.
Just be thankful you didn't buy an IT Gate sat box, what a heap of shit they were.
The U4 is not open source, some of the code is not released to Vivant (or public) by the CPU manufacturer.

Im not sure what the point of your posts are KF?
If you really have an Android problem that you would like to solve, head over to Github and see if some coders are wiling to take a look.

The box in its current form, is obviously not that user friendly if you have 3200+ sat channels to deal with.
Do you even watch that many?
Surely there is only a dozen channels you need to keep on tap in Favourites.

Also i notice you commenting (complaining) about the June firmware, there is actually no official June firmware for the U4
There was a Beta version passed to people to try, but it was not public.
I see satman has taken it upon himself to post it on the SmartSTB forum, even though it is not released by Vivant.

So i guess, when you get your firmware from unofficial sources.... and that fact that it is a Beta, what can you expect?

How do you find the Wetek Play?
No one reports the same problems with them that you mention here.
So it is hard to blame the Android OS for few coding glitches.

I am not sure, but perhaps there is a Linux OS for this box?
Or they may be the possibility to port OpenElec for the box....??
I doubt the box has the numbers in the community to warrant it, but Wetek Play has that option.

I think all of these types of boxes could be made to run brilliantly, if given the proper software development and end to end support from hardware suppliers.
Look at an old DM500 or DM800 or HD DVB-T box for that matter, not much processing power, little RAM, but they work.
A cheap Android tablet works well....
The OTT Android Boxes work ok, but all need improvement.

Essentially, these boxes have 8 times the processing power of a DM800 and are far more flexible in terms of application that will run on them
And very configurable for the end user. So by rights, they have the potential to be great TV boxes.

Perhaps there is just too many different hardware configurations that run Android, to get a solid software build happening?

I asked you to provide a 'credible source' to substantiate your claim the manufacturer is bankrupt.

A credible source would be a government department, etc.

It's unfortunate you are having issues with your unit, as most people on this forum who have purchased them have had great success with them.

You say you don't like any android receivers, so it's puzzling why you bought one on that basis and also now whinge about the price you paid.

Nobody forced you, you chose to make the purchase.

You've had some direct contact with vivant support, are you able to make contact to check if they are still around?

I just sent him a text at 1:06pm today, he started typing straight away and response arrived at 1.13pm
(So as far as support in a response, that seems like good service to me)

And here is the response in point form.

    1. Vivant has not visited Austech in some time
    2. New firmware for the U4 is due to be released this week.
    3. There is 1 unhappy customer from Turkey that AliExpresse ruled against (1 guess whom that is)
    4. They are in business and doing well (in their words)

So.... the old adage is true, always be suspicious of a new member that comes flying in the door whinging

Obviously we are dealing with a sore loser here
And most of his posts have been a rant and waste for forum space.
I do agree, he has highlighted some issues that box has with large channel lists perhaps,
Although, i can not test myself, as i don't have 4000 channels to scan into the box.

To follow up, Vivant were quite concerned about the negative poster and have ask if we are all happy with our boxes and if there is anything they should know about?

Seems like a response from an active business to me

    Which was my concern, OB.

    Thanks for your confirmation.

In particular him claiming the company was bankrupt and an exact number of sales of units.... those are very serious allegations.

Given kruegerfreddy (by his own admission) doesn't like any android receiver, he possibly didn't like the answers he was given when he whinged to the company, so is now trolling.

You are welcome to make factual comments on Austech kruegerfreddy, but trolling is not permitted.

You either need to substantiate your allegations, or retract them and cease the attack on the company.

Failure to do so may result in an immediate ban from Austech.

You can consider this a warning, kruegerfreddy.... you should read carefully.
