If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
At this point, why would you buy a M8 or M8S or newer Quad Core Android plain box?
For a little more, you can have DVB-T and DVB-S2 tuners thrown in for free
(and then there is the PVR function, Time shift, Portable Device Streaming, IPTV, etc)
And you still get your Kodi box
Here is a Video of the Boot Time and TV and Online use

Here is an alternative recommended to me
Watched that unit in use, you cant use DVB-S2 and DVB-T at the same time
Plus, you have to open an Application just to use the tuners
When you open it, it asks you which tuner you want to use (every time).
If you wish to switch between Terrestrial and Sat, you have the close the Application and re-open it
Also it doesn't come with any custom firmware or Home Screen that blends all the abilities together.
You should get one and do a review pheggie
Be good to have something to compare the U4 Quad Hybrid against.

Great review oceanboy.
Just wondering:
- Does it pass through HD audio streams from Kodi?
- Does it stream Netflix at 720p and above and passthrough DD+ audio?
- Can you install a version of Stan that will stream at 720p/1080p and passthrough DD+ audio?
- Can you use it for Foxtel (with legal sub/irdeto smart card?)
- Can you use it for VAST?
At the moment I have a TiVo, MyStar HD, Cubox i-4pro running Openelec/Kodi and Telstra TV along with a Wetek Play on another TV. Be handy to have something that did the lot (or as close as possible to!)
Cheers,
D.
I'll have to check the top 3 on your list
But it is a NO to the bottom 2
You might even find the answers to the first question in the page i linked top of this page
Good Questions
EDIT: My Receiver will not handle ATMOS or DTS-HD, so maybe a can not actually test what you are asking?

Thanks for that. I saw the bit about not having a CI module, but then I thought I saw it mentioned further down that it did. No biggie on that front!
Re HD audio, I guess hard to test if you don't have a capable receiver. But wondering if there was any obvious settings in the menu for HD audio passthrough?
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll do some more googling!

Hey Ocean
Which CAMs does it come pre installed with?
Cheers
PM sent
Another thing worth a mention here
Is these boxes are designed in Korea, around the same circles that Humax, Fortis, Conax are, whom are world leaders in OM sat products
Then manufactured in China
And i will say, the build quality is very good.
The box itself is solid, everything lines up well, connections are solid
The remote, while being very functional, is a touch on the light side, but no worse than other OEM remotes, just not as nice as a Logitech

I noticed in one of your pics that it had a euro wall plug but comes with local sat lists and DVB T regions.
Can you use a wireless mouse or keyboard with it to improve input on the screen? I find the remotes a real pain when searching or signing in to netflix etc.
This looks like a great unit....oh well...looks like I'm getting another toy to play with

Yeah, the unit came with an overseas power adaptor, that is correct.
It is a 12v 2amp adaptor, so i guess an AU version would work just fine.
As for Sats and Terrestrial, it has the whole world in their.
The firmware is very comprehensive, but without being complicated.
There is a Hidden Menu for those that like to share things
Yes, you can use any of those USB receiver dongle remotes
I have only seen 1 other write up of this unit on the net
And it was cut and paste into the start of this thread anyway.
Its not even reviewed on Freaktab yet (from what i have seen)
Unlike a lot of Android Boxes, this one comes very well sorted out straight from the manufacturer
No need for a custom ROM to make everything work well together
Also, i think running a non AMlogic chipset has made a few extra things possible

Thanks mate, you've sold me
Just ordered one..looks like a lot of fun ahead
I just ordered one as well. It will help resolve the issue I posted for a Media recorder for my in-laws as well.....
There is so much i haven't covered and i'm sure people a lot smarter than me will really be able to achieve some great things with this box.
I haven't owned it long, less then 2 days really
But it has already proved itself to me.
And honestly, what a great one box solution!
Perfect for taking to the Holiday Home, the Boat, RV, Car, Bedroom or Theatre Room or as a Daily Driver.
From what i can see, it will receive any broadcast available in Australia today (Sat, FTA, IPTV)
You can scan in all the the channels available to you, and if you need the internet, just plug it, wifi or tether it from a Smartphone
All you need is the knowledge, and thats already available on Austech.
I am going to try it on the High Symbol Rate broadcasts of New Cal next
Oh the known sellers that frequent this site, only when they have something sell will love this box.
Hopefully they just stick to their M8's and IPTV services.

How long did it take to be delivered oceanboy from the time you ordered it ?

Using DHL
It took 16 hours to get from Hong Kong to Melb
Then it took 4 days to go 2hours driving distance
All up for me, it was dispatched on a Tuesday and i got it the following Monday
Even though it arrived in Melbs Wednesday morning at 1am.
Full detailed Tracking was provided at the DHL website, which is pretty much useless once it arrives in Melbourne.
Once it leaves Melbourne Airport, the tracking tells you nothing
I ended up getting a Text message from Austpost to say i had a parcel waiting at my Post Office.

Minnor Update
Well i want to be as honest and truthful as i can be about the U4 Quad Hybrid, so along with the good will be the bad.
I walked into where i have the unit sitting on Test, and found it was frozen and unresponsive
It was sitting on WIN HD (as i thought a HD channel would give it a better test)
No remote commands saved it, so i had to power cycle the unit.
It quickly rebooted and continued to display WIN HD.
Unit was warm to touch, it had been on for 18 hours straight.
I haven't even looked if i have the latest firmware yet either
(although i did download the latest firmware yesterday)
In saying that, my $600 Vu+ Ultimo can do the odd strange thing from time to time when left for long periods
On the upside, the U4 Quad Hybrid opens up attached storage fast!
I have a 2Tb portable drive connected, some folders have 1000+ files and its scans and opens them faster then my MacBook Pro can.
Way way faster then the M8 can do the same job.
