They've been doing that for some time.
What Telstra have done though, is give far greater value with their pre-paid mobile plans, which for most, far outweighs the slightly more frequent renewal period.
From a report it appears the Telcos have found a nice way to increase their charges without actually doing so by now having a 28 Day Billing Cycle.
By doing this there is now 13 Billing cycles in a Callender Year.
Given time I am sure many others will see the advantage of having a 28 Day Month and will follow suit and give themselves an increase of which they believe they deserve.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I have indeed noticed Telstra has appeared to be more generous of late which is not before time but I being of a fairly cynical nature and I wont believe anyone, specifically Telstra are doing so out of the 'Goodness of the Heart' but rather through market forces being applied.
After seeing the Data rates applicable to the now operational SkyMuster Satellite Internet service, I too would be dropping my rates if I was an ISP so as not to see my customers stampeding out the door.
Compared to the only option I have now to connect to the Internet is Mobile Wireless Broadband at $10 a GB, the NBN on SkyMuster is a either $0.77 cents a GB or if I only use it during Peak times (most likely) its $1.60 per GB, beat THAT Telstra !!!

It's good to see Telstra being a bit more competitive.
Of course it's due to competition, not generosity on their part.
Hopefully, they've come to understand they can't have all the telco market and need to make plans more attractive.
Sure, an extra monthly pre-paid bill of $40 will generate a lot of extra revenue, but for me, less than $1 extra per week gives me unlimited mobile calls and texts to any Australian number, $350 of international calls and 6Gb of data (3Gb day + 3Gb night) with unused calls and data rolled over.
The $30 p/m plan is still good value for those that don't need unlimited calls/texts and 3Gb of data, but for my needs, the $40 plan is ideal.
Yes, you're correct, the 'bonus' night time date at present ends on 23 May.
What you don't use (calls/data) rolls over if recharged before that month's expiry date.
There's also Free Telstra Air wi-fi data until 30 June 2016.
I don't use a lot of data either, but unlimited calls/texts 24/7 is what attracted me.

Yes, all those featurest attracted me, plus the international allowance (to standard numbers.) Beats the $49 Telstra plan my other mobile is on.
Although signed up for the free wi-fi, there are only a couple of PTs set up for it here, & the locals like the top hat on the closest PT to me that is configured with it so much, they use it to hone their rock throwing skills!
Never stand under a shadow that's getting bigger
Telstra air is not free - if I am correct. And data used on telstra air is included in your home data use.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
