Thanks mate. Something has been making it run slow as hell (not server) and we are still none the wiser. We were about to load a backup, but if its running, its running.

Running Ok here, ~ 15 mins ago I got the Admin message to be patient while a backup is loaded.
    Obviously you aborted that.

Only just......we were 60% of the way through backing it up as it is now. At least we now wont lose 3 days of posts

I will have to look at bringing forward a software upgrade on the forum. A couple of admin items are not working, so it was on the cards anyway.

I also observed that was the point where loading would stall.

    Ditto.

Also over the last week or so, there is often an excessive waiting time for pages to load - shows message waiting for cse.google. It's a real pain in the backside!!

Andrew just a thought, run the internal virus scanner in your Cpanel over your entire forums folder directory I do recommend closing the board whilst you run the scan , I had similar happen late last year, a member had uploaded a file that was stored to my server files, that somehow slowed the site to a dial-up speed, ran the virus scan and it found it, removed, and rebooted apache and all was back to speed

No one can upload files, images are hosted on postimage.org (apart from avatars which are limited to a small number of basic file extensions) and we havent accepted file uploads for many years.

Waiting for postimage.org and cse.google......they are external sites that we dont have any control over. Postimage hosts our photos and cse.google is the Custom Search Engine use on the toolbar. I ran checks on postimage.org and had no problems with ping times or tracerts, but of course the server is in the US and not Australia.

We dont host our own images because they are a major pain in the arse due to the enormous size accumulation. Your site becomes ridiculously enormous with photos, the forum and the database.

We use Google Custom Search engine because it is better than the forums. VBulletin search (click on the advanced search under the Google Search box) requires regular rebuilding of the search index because it constantly stuffs up. Its probably working fine now, I rebuilt it a few days ago.

As I mentioned, there are a couple of things that have been broken in the admin control panel for quite a while, so I will have to look at bringing forward a VBulletin upgrade. The control panel was running fine while the forum wasnt, so I wouldnt be surprised if it was a problem with one of the two external sites failing to load.

Can anyone tell me how the forums speed is at the moment ?

A member has contacted me saying he has login issues, the site is running a little slow for me but I have also realised so is every site I go to, so my ISP must be having an issue. Makes me wonder whether me and the member have the same ISP.

    Thanks
