Depends upon where you are located, I could hardly expect the ground in the NT or North QLD/WA be any cooler than a few degrees below the average, given that temperatures vary by only a few degrees between the WET and DRY. You'd have to bury the thing far deeper into the ground than they've shown in the video to get the cooling effect so desired.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I was thinking the same, in that the entrance tunnel should be at least TWICE what it is!

. . . also it looks like you wet the surrounding "DIRT aka INSULATION" with water!

    That would work excellently here.
I actually have a cool cupboard in my house, vented to outside on ground floor & cooler air is vented in thru a concrete cellar under the house which is where I keep my beer.
It's not as cold as a fridge though.
    Cheers, Tiny

Keeping the soil moist above this mini cellar will help assist cooling through evaporation and should work good in hot dry sunny areas.

When I went camping as a kid we just dug a bucket in the ground, placed a lid and towels on top that we kept wet and exposed to full sun.
Butter was always hard, snags were never spoilt.
