I'd pretty much guarantee it's a spoof email.
I'll bet any links in the email to 'your account' were directed elsewhere.
I've had several of these, allegedly from ebay and paypal... plus banks, facebook, etc, etc.
Came home to a stern email from eBay saying that my account had been used for unauthorised activity & that eBay has cancelled the unauthorised transactions, and refunded fees to my account. Was also instructed to reset my password and secret questions - after carefully inspecting the email to be satisfied as to it's legitimacy, these instructions were dutifully followed - not following the links in the email of course, as is standard practice, no matter how legit it looks. I couldn't see anything amiss, nothing in history, no clues as to what the 'unauthorised activity' was. Nothing fishy going on in the linked Paypal or bank account either.
Has anyone else seen similar emails lately ie: has eBay had a big hack of their user database again?

I'm pretty sure it was the real deal. There were no links to 'my account' - just general instructions to log in and change my password. It got my full name correct, including the unusual spelling of my middle name. If it is a spoof email - it was exceptionally good, and with no mis-directing links - I wonder to what end?
What happened when you rang eBay to ask them in person about the email, if it was sent by them, and if they had in fact recorded some "Unauthorized" use of your account?
That is my first port of call, if i haven't already decided it was just spam.
Nothing like speaking to someone in person and quizzing them directly.

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
I get this sort of crap all the time including supposed offers of a refund from telstra due to double biling.
I'm yet to find anything wrong in my paypal and Telstra although they're good at stuffing up have not double charged me.
Often I get a heading like acount limited or this one which the english is poor.
Your Account has limitation! Please Update Your Account Information
I never use the email links and some years ago It looked very real and was asking me to login to verify but hovering over the link showed it was nothing like a PAYPAL site so had I logged in they would have had my logon details.
here's another
PayPaI <PayPaI@mos.hosting.com.np>
PayPaI Notification: Your Account Has Been Limited (Case ID : PP-C360-L001-Q42)

Dont automatcially write off anything such as this as scam/spoof emails without carefully checking all the header information.
There are LOTS of hacked Ebay accounts around as I mentioned in this thread
I've actually had emails explaining how my Paypal account has been hacked etc etc, which were pretty slick, and looked very legit. The major problem being that I don't actually HAVE a Paypal account.
Same as those wanting you to follow the link to update your details to a Bank you dont deal with..................dont you wish you could without picking up a Virus or such and give them a heap of crap hoping it will foul up their systems??
