Basic question, whats the best way to choose a fixed lens camera ?
Its easy to install a 2.8mm lens for a general wide angle and a 9mm for long distance shot at a gate/ licence plate etc but what about in between ?
How would you choose a 4 or 6mm lens with confidence.
Any tips ?

Get a lens calculator wheel. You need to take into account the sensor size, distance from subject and FOV. That works it all out for you.

online lens calculator..
and measure the place where you are going to install.
Or get a full body camera and varifocal lens and get the view you want then look at the lens setting.
This online calculator is useful, and well worth anyone playing with cameras and different lenses to have a look at.
Thanks.

A place where I used to work one of the sales guys had a little tool that was just like a lens that you held up and adjust it to see what you want then on the side it would show what lens size you needed. No idea where to get one though.
Ive been trying the motorised lens cameras, zoom in and out with the click of a mouse.
