Thanks guys, what a fantastic response. There is still a long way to go unfortunately and if it substantially falls short, I am going to risk the wrath of members by doing an email.

tristen, you can contact me via email , andrew@ this sites domain name. I am happy to accept any money via direct deposit and donate it with my credit card.

Thanks again everyone and I will ask again for people to consider whether they can afford even a small donation that will make a big difference to someones life.

Austech currently has 71,539 registered members.

Sure, not all are active, but how great it would be if they all gave just $1

At this time, 124 members have read this thread, so we know at the very least there are that many aware of this, but only a small number have so far contributed.

So how about it fellas (and ladies)... please consider helping out.

I thought about how much money I have saved from being part of this forum, all the quick fixes I've discovered for my benefit that have saved something from the tip. All those Mundine fight feeds that cost me nothing that gave me so much joy as he got smashed. The saga of the plasma coffee table. The footy tipping comp. Even the joke thread has to be worth something.
So the smallest donation is an easy way to say thanks and help a friend of the man who runs the forum.

And what a situation for the family themselves through no fault of their own. You have a better chance of winning lotto then ending up with that genetic disorder. Most people would take a 5k car for granted but this is obviously life changing. I honestly felt so good giving a small donation and urge all members and visitors to contribute even the smallest amount to give the family a win.

Mate... I say go ahead with the mailout, regardless.

Look at the response from the giveaway running at the moment.

If only all of those entrants also made a donation to this cause... sigh.

Perhaps we could make donating a condition to an entry of the giveaway?... just kidding of course.

A mailout is going to reach a lot more potentially-donating members than just those that have read this thread.... just do it. (sorry Nike...oh oh... how about a corporate donation?)

Just donated. Wish I could give the guy the full $5,000. If I had it, would do it in a heartbeat.

Copy of what I posted on my FB page. I have a ridiculously large family, so if like only 1/2 of them donate, he'll be buying a Ferrari

While I do not know the person that this is about, a friend I trust does, and he has asked me for help in spreading the word out as well to see if we can get this Aussie battler his car. I will be popping in a donation myself as i see it as a worthy cause.

Most of you that aren't my immediate family would know i'm not in the habit of posting (or reposting) links like this so hopefully some of you chip in. Every little bit helps

If you have any concerns about using your CC online, you can buy a temp CC from most 7/11's etc. This is a one time purchase credit card and you use it until it's out of funds, then it's a thrown away. Usually it's like $55 for a $50 amount on it, $105 for $100 etc.

I'll be using this method myself for doing this. I'm always a bit loathe to use a real CC online when I'm unsure of the company that hosts this thing.

I am in the same boat.
The ANZ Bank have suspended my card due to a suspicious transaction.
Apparently I purchased lottery tickets in South America.
It's nice to know that they are on the ball but it's damn bad timing.
As soon as it is cleared or an alternative payment mode is available, I'll be in.
