A friend had one years ago and he said it was a waste of money.
I tried the one that rolls up paper into a log form and all it did was smolder in the stove.
Apart from needing a copious quantity of paper to shred by whatever means, you need a container to soak the paper in and then you compress each block which takes a fair amount of pressure and then it must be dried completely and I do mean DRY which will take several days depending on the weather.
To make ONE block, I think you may need at least 10 Metropolitan Newspapers and if I am right, at around $2 per paper dont make it very eco anything I dont think.

Basically you need to start making the blocks NOW for Next winter and stow them where they can dry out under a cover as they will absorb water if it rains on them.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

porkop didn't ask for information how to use one Gordon, only if someone has one they wish to part with.

I'm sure he's already aware of how to 'drive' one.

There are some great YouTube videos on "improvements" that people have done to assist in the speedy production of these "Eco" logs.

As to paper sources, my letterbox is filled ever week with so much junk mail, as are my neighbors, that I feel that sourcing material is rather simple as I would just have to ask for it.

Yea yea, understand the drying purpose.

I think that if something we use and then throw away just gets one more alternate use then we are being eco friendly. I used to use the Coles plastic bags as kitchen bin liners till those bastards shrunk them a little coz everyone was doing it and they weren't selling actual bin liners. But that simple usage was actually reducing the use of plastic bags for bin liners by 50% if you stop to think about it!!

I was totaly unaware of those variations, particularly the one mounted to the wall and a lever used to compress the brick and expel the water to see why your interested in using one.
I'd like to see now how long it takes for a brick to thoroughly dry out and how well it would burn and for how long before getting too enthusiastic.
Even with the driest wood, you need to split and leave it for next year to allow it to season anyway so doing the same with a paper brick would be no hardship.
That lever addition makes it a hell of a lot better to use and beats swinging an 8kg Block splitter on some blocks I have here at the moment.
