Default Gateway Laptop Screen display problem

I have a Gateway NE56R41U that had a cracked screen.

I ordered a new screen and connecting cable (from mother board to back of new screen), the cable was severed in one spot.

When I reassembled the unit with the replacement parts, all I get is a completely white washed screen display!

I can hook up an ext monitor via the VGA port and see everything OK, startup graphics, login, Win 10 screen, go online, play Youtube videos, etc..

It seems as though the ext VGA Monitor screen functions OK (No GPU problems), unless the "VGA out" is different than the "video out" to the attached 15.6" WXGA screen?.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance chris

I'm no rocket scientist but I reckon the 'new' severed cable might be the problem!

I'd be trying the old cable again!

No, Guys I ordered a NEW MB to laptop screen cable and a new screen.
When I re-assembled the laptop and booted up all I get is a bright white screen No POST or BIOS Logo, nothing.

Let me ask you all a question . . . does the fact that the VGA out will cause a display to appear on an ext monitor mean that the GPU will also drive the laptop screen?

I'm under the impression there are two sets/parts/drivers(is that the correct terminology?) in the GPU . . . one for the VGA out and one for the LAPTOP display. Is it possible that the drivers for the VGA are working fine while the laptop drivers are shot? Meaning the screen could be good but the GPU (MB) has failed?

Yes many laptops can drive an external monitor and the laptop screen independently and this may be the case with yours.

ok at this point it is cheaper to buy another screen, $42.00 USD than it is a motherboard, 100.00! so a screen it is!

    thanks all
