Hi,
I am about to put together a M1Gold system I've had sitting in my shed.
I did security years ago - Ness 5000 days - but not since.
Do you know the following Ness Power Supply?
Ness Power Adaptor
17VAC3000
17V ac 3A
Cat. No. EI-66 series
Part No. 840-041
(Details off name plate)
Is this suitable for the M1Gold panel?
Note that this is a conventional transformer type power supply. Ness have a new switching power with the same Part Number.
Also can the M1Gold be defaulted if the programming code can not be found, does it need a tech, or can it be returned to Ness?
Regards,
Brian.

Hi Brian,
I would suggest that it is best to do the free training on the M1 as the panel needs some intro before leaping in to it.
Go to the Ness website and visit the training page for more info.
You can then take the panel to the programming day and set it up there.
regards
Training sounds good but like most things it doesn't get to central or North Qld.
I have an open cabler ticket still & I would have liked to upgrade to have the coax category when they spun that off as a separate item.
I missed out doing that because the training to do that wasn't available here in Mackay, central Qld.
They gave us a couple of years to get the training when they changed the regs. I contacted the providers several times locally & then further away.
The only way to get the training was to go to Townsville or Gladstone & do it part time - the shortest way was to do it each evening in Townsville for an entire evening.
That simply wasn't possible so I couldn't upgrade, & now I couldn't do the required hours work experience that is needed even if I managed to find a short term course.
Training is a problem. It would be nice if a lot more became available as online interactive material.
Is that power supply still ok for the panel?
I notice the new power supply is Switch Mode & it doesn't appear have an earth wire like all the old dialler transformer supplies were required to have.
Have the rules changed regarding earths in the power supplies or an earth to the M1Gold?
I know panels can be returned to Elk for defaulting if necessary, can Ness or some other tech do that as well?
Regards,
Brian.
Tranny or switchmode, it doesn't matter, as long as the voltage and current are suitable.
Most power supplies (plugpacks) are double insulated these days... no earth.
Can you clarify about the coax endorsement.
Mine was only a 4 hour course, so unless you're talking about something different, part-time just for coax seems a bit odd.
Also, you don't need any proof of work experience once you already have an open cabler licence, which you say you already have.
The open cabler licence usually gives you aerial and underground telephone, but data (structured twisted pair) coax, optical fibre and testing/certification all require separate endorsements now.
We have the course available online too
