Sorry mate, the only recommendation I can make is well outside your budget parameters.
Give jok11n a call, he has the best available and at bloody good prices.
Probably been asked a 1000 times, but here goes again, Ive set a budget for a dash cam for $150 or less, anyone got and recommendations?, I bought one a few weeks ago from a dodgy asian ebay seller, who completely lied about the specs, surprise surprise typical asians ripping of Australians with their cheap rubbish, well technically not cheap $105 and it was faulty of course, I eventually got a refund. What do you suggest?

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Currently there is one being advertised on TV for under $60.
According to the advertising, it plugs into the Ciggie lighter and begins recording when the ignition is turned ON.
I bought a similar one by design a couple of years ago and the only problem I have with it is it cannot be connected to the Car's battery when recording which limits the recording time to the life of the internal battery (about ONE Hour).
Beyond that the picture was good and clear on playback on either its own screen or the computer.
I have a Uniden 'Black Box' with 2 front and 1 rear camera, GPS on Playback on a computer and to be honest, its total overkill as far as I am concerned.
The Uniden died after 11 months and had to be replaced under warranty but the cheapo one is still going despite me trying wire up the battery connection.
I am thinking of buying one for my Son but beyond being powered up and running as long as the ignition is turned ON, is all I will be looking for.

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
I have the Mini 0805, listed on Leroys review at number 4 for $70, i bought it more that $100. Has been very good and i hope it is recording ok with total of100 gb of cards. But there is always a price to pay with cheap end products, in this case after about 15 months the internal battery failed so had to pull it apart and replace. No big problem, plenty of clips on you tube to show you how and batteries are cheap

I guess this indicates its not 'Portable' as a camera as some are because they have an internal battery and this doesnt.
I didnt read all those specs and I didnt see if it has a 'G Sensor' to record if the vehicle is bumped when parked.
Except for telling you that the vehicle has been 'bumped' while parked, unless you hit from the front for the camera to see it, its serves no use at all I think.
If it doesnt, then all the load on the capacitor would be to run the clock so it should last a couple of days at least.

Well I waited off for that bargain, and it popped up, slipped into Supercheap auto for a couple bits and pieces, and sitting on the counter marked clearance was a Defender Car vision 5015 FullHD dash cam, the young lady behind the counter said $40 and its yours, so I purchased it, and gotta say I'm super impressed with it and the quality

See how it goes when it rains as I found the first one I had I could see on the back screen better through the rain (wipers a Pain going back and forth) than I could looking through the windscreen.
I saw sitting in the passengers seat at the time.
Notice on TV that it can be pouring down but the camera's cant see it.

I too bought a cheap (Aldi) dash cam. It was ok for a while. We traveled down to Vic from Qld. On return I decided to see what the SD card had on it of our trip.
Answer: Nothing. It had not recorded anything and that was because it was broken. I don't even know how long it had not worked. The power light was on but that was all. Complete and utter rubbish that didn't even have the decency to kill the power LED when it died. I was bloody annoyed.
I did some research and bought a better one that has a GPS in it. Is that a good feature? Absolutely! These little cams have a small battery. Set the date and time and all is good until the battery dies while the ignition is off. Next drive and your cam time/date is not set anymore so you tell me. Can that recording be used in court? With a GPS the cam sets the exact time and date within seconds of powering up. By the time we get to the gate it is locked in and all set up correctly. As a bonus the screen displays speed after 1 minute and as many reading this will know, GPS speed is very accurate. 99% chance it is gunna be more accurate than the vehicle speedometer. So yeah they cost money but you buy a cheap non GPS model, you are buying peace of mind ONLY Are you REALLY covering yourself legally? I think not.

I have the Uniden Car cam fitted with GPS and so far I cannot find a way to set the time to 'Local' ie AEDST but as its set by the Satellite that shouldnt matter if there was any dispute regarding what time is shown on the screen.
As for price equals quality, the first Uniden died after 11 months, no idea why but I got a new one under warranty.

I am not sure if you will find this helpful, for it is twice your budget at least USD wise. For $300 I got the Garmin DriveAssit GPS. It has dash cam, but adds full GPS features and camera-assisted driver alerts. I lets me know if I drift out of my lane, if I am driving too close, or over the speed limit. If you expand what you want, I recommend it.
Got a mini 0805 for the wife, had it for 3yrs and still going strong, thinking of getting the mini 0807 for my car.

Any one have a mini 0806 or similar. I have 9# new _CL 402030 3.7V 200 mPh batteries. As these cameras batteries are notorious for clagging out due to the Aussie heat and becoming unreliable i have given up after changing the battery twice and order another cam (violo 119v2, they have a capacitor) Just give me a pm
