Default Yahoo Sold To US Telco Verizon

YAHOO has agreed to sell its core business to telecom giant Verizon for $US4.8 billion ($6.4 billion), ending a 20-year run by the internet pioneer as an independent company, the firms announced.

Verizon chief executive Lowell McAdam said Yahoo would be integrated into its recently acquired AOL unit to create “a top global mobile media company, and help accelerate our revenue stream in digital advertising.”

The acquisition, expected to close in early 2017, will exclude Yahoo’s cash, certain patent holdings, and its big share in China’s Alibaba Group and stake in Yahoo Japan.

I had only ever heard of Verizon from those in the now long gone Yahoo Chat rooms and much of it wasnt very complimentary and who remembers if you were installing new software, much of it came with AOL built in as the default server and would alter your current settings and try to 'dial out' to that number.

For those too young to remember before ADSL etc, we had to dial a number to connect to an Internet Provider.
In the extremely early days, you has a rubber 'boot' that you fitted over the telephone hand piece until a Modem (card) came along allowing users to connect the computer to the telephone line and when you wanted to go on or off line, you opened the Modem program and listened to line Noise then as it dialed out the number, did the 'Handshake' and away you went at 28 bps to surf the World Wide Net !!!!!!!!
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

My first ISP was AOL. IIRC I could not even use Netscape Navigator (remember that one) to log in, had to use the AOL specific program and then IE. I do not miss those days at all. Fancy staying up all night because you had to tie up the home phone whilst on line......
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Haha I seem to forget how well we have it now and take it for granted! I still remember stuffing around with Acoustic Couplers and having my mind blown at the time by the technology of being able to dial into a ISp or BBS!

I remember my first 2400 baud modem, I used it to hack into a Sita X.28 Pad, from there we could route to an X.25 network and then into Compuserve, ahhh memories

I remember getting a boot up the arse for a horrendous phone bill when I first got my modem.
