I just put together a windows movie maker slide show for a 21st birthday party tonight and everything works ok except that when I play back through a large screen TV there is no audio soundtrack. Audio is ok when played via the laptop. I have tried both vga & HDMI but no luck. Any help appreciated as I'm running out of time.

Is it just a case of turning the Volume up on the Stereo?
I say this, as Android boxes can behave like this, then when you turn the volume up, the audio is there, but only the last part of the volume spectrum.
How have you played it on TV???
What Media Box?
Or did you plug the USB direct into the TV and use the TV's Player?

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
Down load VLC media player and choose that to play thru as i guess it is a audio format problem
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"
Possibly in the audio out settings of the lappy.
Check the audio, playback settings.
Just tried a seperate audio feed but no go. The audio on the laptop ceases when the HDMI cable is plugged in to the TV
hdmi should be right with audio
id go with vlc also, watever is quickest fix
how big & long is the file

Can you connect analogue out via the speaker/headphones connector on the lappy to RCA inputs on the TV (eg: audio in on the TV VGA input)?
As others have suggested, try VLC Player... it generally works with just about anything.
OK the movie wont play directly on the TV because of not having the correct codecs so since I'm running out of time I want to play it on the laptop but have it viewable on the TV.
Just a suggestion
Is there anywhere on the TV's Menu, a setting to allow HDMI Audio?

Just repeated some of the things I'de tried and now it is working ok on HDMI. The only thing I did different was to have the TV volume turned up fairly loud. When I plugged it all together the audio came through and continued even after turning it down to the original level where it was when not working. So it seems like there is some sort of threshold on the tv that needs to exceeded to fire up the audio. Still don't know why it wouldn't work on vga & seperate audio feed. I'll investigate at some other time but thanks to all for the help & suggestions
The ol turn the volume up trick
glad you got it sorted

Glad it's working.Enjoy the party tonight.
My daughter sends a sarcastic " thanks a lot " to you all. She has always been told that the unflattering & embarrasing photos will come out at her 21st
