On Friday, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued a 4.8 million vehicle recall and warned owners of affected vehicles not to activate cruise control, for fears that the system will not deactivate once engaged.

another 'stupid american crashes and blames it on car' recall......

    one incident....

cruise may not turn off if there is a short in a certain wiring loom. But will still deactivate if you press the brakes.....

    media beat up....

It looks like my 2015 Jeep Cherokee is affected also but I have never had a problem with cruise control. Will keep an eye out on the recall website. Thanks Tiny for the heads up.

Did more reading on this and FCA has a remedy in place already. Wonder when us in Australia will get the fix.

Doesn't affect me anyway, it's only petrol vehicles....
    Probably just a software upgrade.

They're also doing a recall to add auto park because someone got out if a vehicle without putting it in park and got injured.

Off course it's the cars fault so yet another recall.....

Just be wary of Ford and Cruise control as my AU Futura (Sept 2000 build) wagon refused to engage Cruise a few years ago.
While this was never verified by anyone, I found the STOP globe in the tail gate had blown and when I was replaced it, Cruise was working and hasnt missed a beat since.

My theory is that the computer 'Talks' to various parts of the vehicle and does a check on them and if it doesnt get a correct report, it shuts down.

Look how it was reported recently where a forum member had a Tow Bar fitted and couldnt get the trailer lights to work unless the Computer was programmed to allow it??
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

The CANBUS system ,on some vehicles just a blown globe or brake switch can cause a major system shutdown.
