Default Backup of GPS Unit/Windows CE

Just wondering what you guys running your GPS on Windows CE use to backup your system?

I've looked at all the main ones...Sprite, SPB but none of them run on CE.

No need to get fancy with a simple GPS since the data in it is not changing a lot. I back up the SD card to my PC and any internal flash folders I am stuffing around with.

Yea...it's just that its an el cheapo unit that loses all its data if the batteryruns flat as per any PDA type device.

The old man is getting fed up of having to reinstall all the programs from scratch every time. A backup program would be a lot easier, just restore the image and it's done.

There must be something out there for CE?

Nope...CE is a version of WM for embedded devices.

Technically ppc 2003, WM5, WM6, Smartphone are all built on Windows CE subset. At times "Windows CE" incorrectly gets used interchangeably between these.

Windows CE is it own operating system itself.

In this case the GPS device will be a Windows CE 4.2 or Windows CE 5 device since almost all GPS devices sold run Windows CE 4.2 or Windows CE 5. His device is also known as a PNA device (as opposed to a PDA device)

    if it's losing it's memory, i suspect it's a pda not a pna.

if so, spb backup will work fine.

Nope, it's a PNA...and as I said in my first post, SPB doesn't work because it's running CE.

What makes you say that ? My PNA forgets its internal memory when it goes flat and my PDA remembers everything when it gets power again after being flat for a few days.

Hello, I am new here and I have an problem, I have an PNA and I tried to activate his games and to put some new maps on it but I think I did something wrong because now when I try to open it appear"the aplication failed to start last time.Do you want to reset to factory default and lose all your POIs, tracks an settings?" and then "program aplication database cannot be found".
I haven't made backup before getting into his soft, can you help me please by telling me where can I find an backup file for windows core 5.0 to download it?Maybe I can fix it with an restore backup.
    Thank you very much

scotman, is your pna locked ?
    what brand is it ?
    is it chinese brand ?

I have this issue on my MIO168 running Windows Mobile 2003 CE4.2 - Some idiot that designed it neglected to put a LITTLE bit more effort into it so that it keeps the settings even if the battery goes flat...

At the time, many years ago, I brought my mio168 for $1000 bux ! and the stupid thing can't even save settings after a flat battery..... this means, that every week or so (if i don't use it) i MUST check the battery level and make sure it does not
depleted otherwise it gets wiped and back to factory !!!

However, switching it off at the back, YES, will factory reset it, which is ok. But the battery thing kills me ! - also note: some devices, there are certain ways of turning it off... if you hold the off button it will ONLY shut the screen off, but if you tap the off button once, it will shut it down properly (or vise versa)

On my mio168, it has a eBackup app that i use, so when it goes flat, i just hit restore, takes 1 min .. this app came with the device already.

you can install SPB on a WM device, but if the PNA is locked how are you going to install an app to back up ??
