How is the Gold Coast these day?
Hi ppl.....
I'm about to have delivered a sample GPS / 3G GSM Tracking Device that may be available in Australia soon due to our 2G network getting shutdown in December 2016.
It's a simple retail GPS Tracker, designed for vehicle or Boat tracking and security. It's the one that can shutdown the engine of the vehicle by sending an sms to it's GSM module etc, and is compatible with Google Maps and has no ongoing costs or subscriptions (Unless you want to have it live real time tracking etc)
Is anyone interested in a review of same ? ..... If so, I'll do a video and written review, and post it here on Austech first.
What are your thoughts ?
Cheers

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
Ok cool.... I'll do a full test and review on it when it arrives.
Love the smell of new toys
So why the need for 3 separate threads? all the same post?
I haven't posted for ages, and couldn't decide which forum this belonged in. It's definitely GPS...... But it's a 'vehicle tracker' .... So maybe belongs there? It's also a security anti-theft device ? My ex always said I was hopeless at making choices with multiple good options. Hahaha
I would recommend that if you have the choice, buy an LTE (4G) tracker.
There's been no excuse for why GSM trackers have continued to be sold knowing that the end of 2G was planned for last year, but other reasons have kept it going this long.
And the 3G networks are now on the decline. There are a few new cells going in but once VoLTE comes online, 3G will slowly be replaced.
Analog lasted 15 years, GSM has lasted 25 years, CDMA 5 years, 3G has been going 10 years and 4G about 5 years so far. 5G is now being rolled out.
I give 3G units another 5 years before the plug is pulled on them.
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
Yes mate.... Fully agree. It's all moving way too fast. But if I got a good five(5) years out of an inexpensive tracking device..... I'd be very happy with that I'm told these will retail for under $300, unlike the many cheap fake ones that are only LBS not GPS and give very inaccurate location data.
I'm also told that the 4G ones are more expensive to use due to the SIM card or data costs ? You might be able to fill me in on that. Guys in Telstra are telling me that 3G will be around till 2025. But as stated.... I'd still be happy with 5 years of cheap tracking of the 4WD and Motorbike
No, he just wants it to see where his Ex Wife is parking at night

I like your thinking Al..... Funny thing is, these units have a user programmable "Speed Notification" to your mobile phone if the unit goes over the speed limit you set. They also have an SOS button for emergency's I'm told, and the ability for you to listen in to what's being said in the car in real time. Mmmmm could be many uses me thinks
I can't wait to play with this one, and if all goes well, my next review will be on the "personal Tracker" that is battery powered and very small in size, as well as another vehicle unit that is 4G compatible !
Hahaha I followed her to your place...AGAIN ! wtf ?
But it's true, there are many uses I'm guessing. I just wanted one for the motorbike, which started me down this road in the first place

I have combined all three threads into this one, as the subject is GPS.
As per the rules, do not start multiple threads on the same subject.
Thanks for the help. It's always good to have divine intervention from SuperAdmin when needed
I'll try to be more decisive in future *spank*
Should I post the review in the same forum ? GPS ?
Cheers
VoLTE has been running here for months.....

If your thinking of using the 4G network for any of these devises, make sure it covers BOTH bands available as Telstra in its wisdom introduced 4G here but on the newer 700Mhz? band which meant my Wireless Broadband Modem I was using that was bought before the other band was introduced and cant pick it up but it still works on 3G.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Ok great info. So what band frequencies should we be looking for in the 4G units in the future for Australia ? I'll check the specs in the 4G unit when they send that to me in October
Ohh, the other thing to consider is if your planning on traveling outside the Metropolitan areas that your Carrier covers that area.
Telstra has the best coverage in general but it still has quite a few 'Black Spots' as does Optus who is next best.
Others may only work within a limited area around a major town but with no service in between.
I feel companies who run those Amoured Cars would also use satellite as well to ensure they know exactly where their vehicles are.

The unit to which you refer appears very similar to that described at .
