Default Program to block running specific software?

I visit my folks once a week and spend a few hours removing what ever new virus is on their pc. I've just spent another two hours getting rid of smitfraud and a couple of others tonight. Why? Because I have a younger sister who lives with them that loves Limewire.

Told her to leave it alone, even set her up with access to the newsgroup server, passwords and search engines I use and pay for, but "Limewire is ace!...you can get anything and I know which files are dodgy blah blah blah.

Basically I'm looking for a prog where I can specify a list of .exe files which it will refuse to run, preferrably bringing up a message when she tries, such as "piss off arse hat" or something similar.

I know I could set up Admin rights and give everyone an account stopping them from installing progs but they do need to be able to install some things; besides my folks would get all confused and depressed with remembering login passwords. I really just want to kill Limewire and possibly shareaza, anything to do with itunes and a few others that piss me off.

    Any suggestions?

Can't you just block those two programs from being installed ??? and tell your sister its not her pc and to respect her grand parent rights to have a workable pc. or lose the right to use it ??

Not exactly sure how to, to be honest, without giving them all seperate accounts. Could make a Limewire default installation folder and make it read only, hidden, etc...but wouldn't take her long to figure out how to get around that.

Have you ever actually met a twenty-five year old spoiled brat?

Just use your firewall and block Limewire .. if it can't access the net it can't download the nasties.

Any of those 'kiddy control' proggys would do it,... should be free to AU households,... you could have an unrestricted profile applied and just prevent certain proggies from running. They're password restricted so she won't be able to bypass or uninstall easily.

Thanks guys. Will give a kiddie control program a go and see if it stops the rubbish. Kinda like the idea of telling her I've installed net nanny to keep her in line. Cheers.

Sounds like netnanny is more than needed. Got a female child on the internet without any supervision from someone who knows what "the internet" is..

Limewire should be blown up. I had to ban my daughter from it for the same reason.

Thought I might post the solution I used as a fair few people would probably like to ban limewire and certain other progs.

The net nanny/firewall suggestions got me thinking and ended up using Kaspersky's own application monitor. Just added the install program and the actual launcher to High restricted, removed all rights to write or read and passworded Kaspersky so it couldn't have its settings changed or be closed down.

    Nice and specific.

Thanks again for all the suggestions guys!

    Whaaahahhahahhaha!
