    Default Excel Help

    I need some help with an excel spreadsheet. Here is the sceranio:
    Two vehicles are travelling a distance of 4000 metres car A is 500 metres ahead of car B. If car A is travelling at 100klm per hour how fast must car B travel at to catch car A at the 4000 metre mark. Can someone help me with the right formula for this as I want to be able to change car A's speed and it recalculates car B's speed - thanks

    If 1 of the vehicles is 500 metres ahead of the other, then obviously they won't both be travelling 4000 metres.

    Does one vehicle have a 500 metre head start over 4000 metres or does the other vehicle need to travel 4500 metres?

    The FORMULA you need sounds like using distance,time and speed.
    And the Formula for Speed is Distance divided by Time.
    And transposing that becomes Time = Distance divided by Speed
    Both vehicles time must be the same so..
    maybe..

    3500/100 = 4000/B
    and then..
    B= 4000/3500 * 100

    The 100 is where you replace CAR A speed

    You need to calc the offset distance first so a formula to calculate (End distance- Start position) i.e. 4000-500 for A and 4000 - 0 for Car B

    Then divide offset distance Car A by 1000 (change units to km) and divide again by velocity for car A (i.e. 100). This will give you the time Car A needs to get from offset (500) to Finish (4000).

    to calculate velocity of Car B then do the reverse. Offset Car B divide 1000 (convert to km) divide by time Car A takes. This provides the speed Car B needs to be travelling.

    moeee is right.

    Vb = 4000/3500 * Va

    Va = speed of car A
    Vb = speed of car B
