    Just a thought, if your country has restrictive satellite laws would they not come down on you like a ton of bricks if you erected a dish??? Maybe you'd be better using the internet and, possibly, a VPN to get around geo-restrictions to find the feeds that you so desire. It may well be quicker and easier and far less stressful than your satellite solution.

    i want you just focus on how to avoid flat surface in dish making process.
    other discussions about net and vpn has been made a lot without any desirable results.

    so i really need ur technical supports and knowledge to pass barriers i have encountered.

    Understand the Fanboy side of things, and the attendant problems and risks. I have been following this thread out of interest, unfortunately I know nothing about satellite stuff, so I shall bow out. I wish you well in your endeavours.

    I seriously doubt a 1.8m home-made dish would provide any increase in performance compared to a 100cm commercially-made dish due to the commercially-made dish having far greater accuracy of the surface and I'm also assuming the commercially-made dish is one-piece, which will perform better than a petalised dish of the same size.

    Ku-Band dishes require much greater surface accuracy compared to C-Band dishes as the slightest imperfection will cause signal degradation of the much shorter wavelength Ku frequencies.

    As I mentioned previously, to obtain a curve in sheetmetal, it has to be rolled.

    If you don't have access to a roller, the sheet can be formed over a cylinder, such as a pipe.

    500 kilometers out of reception is just an example.

    if i build self made dish it increase current signals of receivable satellites.
    besides that it isnot petealised dish. it has just to section of aluminum sheets. not more than that.
    i can use it for receiving cband as well.
    existing parabolic dishes here arenot made accurately.
    they arenot as good as yours.

    Fixed the link to the pic for you.

    It appears to be some form of perforated mesh, most likely aluminium, as is used on commercial dishes.

    To find out for sure, you need to ask the person who took the pic.

    As I explained before, plastic alone will not reflect the signals... they will pass right through unless there is a metal reflective surface embedded in it.... that is how fibreglass dishes are made.

    Any perforated mesh must be rated for Ku-Band wavelengths... otherwise most of the signals will pass through the holes if they are too large.

    Regardless of the material you choose, it must be curved to match the parabolic shape.

    The mesh is generally used to both reduce the weight and wind resistance of a dish which needs to be properly anchored as well.
    The gap in the mesh does have an effect on what frequencies it can receive, the bigger the gap, the lower the frequency like C band 2~4 Ghz.
    This mesh or something similar is imbedded into a Fibre glass dish to make them work because as MTV says, plastic on its own WILL NOT REFLECT !!
    Some years ago I saw a plan using a chicken wire mesh set out in a V shape with the LNB mounted on a pole at the 'mouth' of the V.
    This was for an early Satellite to Home TV TV service for remote areas of Australia.
    I could never work out how it could be focused to pick up the signal.
    I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

    Maybe you can also just get hold of four or eight 2 m lengths of flat-bar, then bend them side-on according to your curve on the paper. Then you basically put them all on top of each other, spread them out 45 degrees (if there are 4) or 30 degrees (if there are 8) so that they form a round frame of the dish. They all cross over each other in the middle, so you can put a bolt through them all in the centre point.

    But, to make it more accurate, if you can get a small circular piece of metal for the centre, then cut these lengths in half, you can weld it onto this centre circular piece (keeping the degree separation in mind) and in the end, what you're looking for is the same structure you have in the figure that you posted. You can then line that with anything which will act as the reflective part - mesh, metal, etc. If you use really thin stuff like mesh or really thin aluminium sheets, it will bend easily enough that you can rivot or nail the reflective material to the "ribs" you've just made. But, of course, the more effort you put into bending it more properly, you'll get better results of course. It all depends how "makeshift" you would like it to be.

    I would not recommend mesh for Ku-band though, mesh is better for C-band. Ku band works better with solid reflectors. It's not hard-and-fast, but seeing as you are saying you are looking for marginal signals, you want to improve your chances as much as possible.

    Basically, by using this design, you are making the "slices" automatically without actually having to make the individual slices as such.

    If you are thinking fibreglass then have a look at "The Nelson Parabolic TVRO Antenna Manual". It details 10 feet and 12 feet diameters. Bigger than your 6 feet but the ideas would be the same.

    if i have high speed internet i dont open topic.
