Default The sad passing of Fernbay

    Hi all Sat Members

I have been advised by a fallow member off the sudden passing on the weekend of an old friend and forum moderator Fernbay AKA Dave Mc.

Many older members of Austech will have communicated with Dave. I had the good fortune to have known him for 20+years stretching back to the early Oz Sat Tv days. Though as happens people drift away as family and other things take priority?.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends. You will be missed

    RIP.
    Dave.

Damn. Such sad news. Condolences to Fernbay's family.
His contributions to the forum when he was active were invaluable.

We (Austech) did hear about it 2 days ago, but we asked another member to post with information as we didnt have enough details. Cmoore has posted in between. But thats not a problem, we just wanted to hear more information and confirmation. I am sure everyone understands that we really need to double check before posting something like this.

Dave (David McTaggart) provided a lot of great information over the years , and his profile reflects that. He was also a member prior to 2008, so his contribution is far far bigger than what the stats below show.

He was a year younger than me so he would have been 48 ? Dave hasn't been active much on the site in recent years, he ran his own small business.
On behalf of all Austech members, we would like to convey our sympathy to Dave's family. Sometimes there is just not much you can think of to say that's going to make a difference. Its very sad news. We will run it on the forums main page for a week, as many members would have had dealings with Dave over (i'm guessing) at least 15 years here, maybe more.

As I understand it, some Austech members have known Dave personally for many years.

To some, he was a very close friend, so to those of you who knew him well, we extend our condolences as it's often difficult losing a good mate.

Naturally, it's very sad for Dave's family and once again, our sympathy to his family members.

    R.I.P. Dave

Been waiting for a thread to start. I think many bought a DM500 from him to start their card sharing career. Boy oh boy 48yo....that's way to young. RIP

The birthday greetings are automated, selecting a mod at random.

Unfortunately, the system that generates them is no longer supported and there is a known issue that it still puts mods names against posts, regardless if that mod has been removed from the list, or not.

    It's very random.

As a result and to ensure Fernbay doesn't appear to continue posting birthday greetings, it has been decided to stop them altogether.

Hopefully some time down the track, a fix or replacement application may be implemented.
