Default which engine oil for falcone 2005

Some one told me that the older the car gets you should change oil parameters as you go. I normaly ask mechanic to put a full syntetic one. This time i want to do it myself and wondering which would best suites Ford Falcone MKII 2005 model?

There are a multiplicity of oils on the market and they are rated into 3 grades, New up to 150,000kms (roughly), older and High performance engines.
If you have owned the car since new, changed the oil either on schedule or at least regularly, choose the one to suit the motor, standard or high performance, then on kilometres as per the speedo.
Add in your climate, car driven short, stop-start distances or more than 30 minutes at highway speed then the last choice is the cost and how pretty the container is !!
By Law all Oils that show the ASA marker must conform to a specific standard which means even the cheapest No Name Brands must at least work.

it is 6 cyl and i live in Sydney. Manual says to use 10W-30 My confusion is that someone told me that with 11-year-old car I should be using different oil. Can’t remember exactly which one 5W-40 etc. Apparently engine after while has a bigger tolerance and I need to use a thicker oil. I have no idea if this is true. Should I still use 10W-30 as per original Ford spec?

What did it say when you used a Lubricant Guide like this one:

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

    There you go.
So between hoe, the user manual and Nulon, you have a unanimous decision.

I know what you mean, there are oils for older engines, yours just isn't that old though.

Years ago to shut up the rattles in a 68 Toyota Crown that I bought from new, I put 90 grade diff oil in the sump.
By then the engine was 7 years old and had well over 160K on it and it was using oil quite heavily.
Surprisingly it never smoked and an NRMA test of the exhaust showed it was within the emissions limits of the day but the rear bumper after a run had a fine sheen of oil over it you could write your name in.
Despite the overnight Temps dropping to freezing or below, I never had any difficulty starting the car after it stood outside all night at work.
No one bothers anymore but one idea was you went 10W30 in Winter and 20W50 in Summer.
After 260ks I have only just begun to run 'Oil for Older Engines' in my 2000 AU wagon and that was only because it was on special.

as per ford schedule, 15000km. it does all hwy work.

only reason i've changed a couple around 500000km has been the hard facing coming off the cams and the top end starts to tick, its cheaper to replace the motor with a low k one from the wreckers....

cant buy new ford 1 tonners any more, well any aussie ford now, i just bough a low k ex water corp one.

the utes do a 1300km run every day, 365 days a year to a couple of mine sites....

ive just got a couple of low k motors and gearboxes from the wreckers before the price goes up......

    Wow, that is good...
    33 Oil Changes hoe

I've also wondered if Changing the Oil and Filter at half the Interval time helps?
I do it on the Mrs car, hers is a 20,000k Interval for a 3.0 Diesel , we try and change it ever 10,000ks with a Filter each time

So far that principle has worked for me over many vehicles and bikes, never had to do an Engine rebuild or Top End rebuild.
But i don't see the kind of mileage you see hoe.... Half a Million k's.. That is Taxi territory.

best thing you can do for a diesel is bypass the egr and add a 1 or 2 micron oil bypass filter.

Since we've gotten the "facts" out of the way, what's a falcone 2005? Is that related to the English backpacker dude?

Im 10-40, shouldn't need to go thicker than that, its one step up from standard non turbo oil weight.

I'd go 10-40 and see how much oil it uses between changes. If it uses say 1.5l then I would move up a grade. I used 10-40 in my old commodore until 390,000km.

I change the oil in my Ranger approx every 7-8000km using full synthetic oil. I know about blocking egr but i did that on the patrol and had to do other mods to control turbo boost.
