I would like to put a HDD to record stuff, but I'm really not good with opening the unit up.

    Is there another way?

If you mean 'opening' the Octagon up, then your wrong. You have a choice of hooking up an external drive via Esata or Usb. Both connections work fine.

On the rear of the unit is the ESata and on the front is the USB

The only thing to note is the HDD format. If your using any of the firmwares (Recent) that have the CCcam plugin then you will need to have the format at Fat or Fat32. Older versions have NTFS format

Older versions were DR-DOS, not NTFS which made it unreadable in PC's without specialist file system utility software.

Has anyone gotten Al Jazeera set up on their SF918??.
I thought there might be a way of editing the channel but I can't see it - I can edit the PIDS but not frequencies, at least not that I can see

Go into the Advanced Search menu and hit the green button for Edit TP. You then have the option to press the green button again to create a New TP.

Is this ever likely to be fixed via a firmware upgrade or is it a hardware issue?

Well fat32 supports 2TB so I would think it is a firmware implementation issue that could be resolved.

    Default Octagon 918 and Aljazeera

I'm new to all this and have found the forum very informative many thanks for lots of great info. I've just set up a Octagon 918 on a motorised dish, first I found AlJazeera and it worked fine. I then did a software upgrade and while I can find AlJazeera I get the message that it is is scrambled I also updated the keys (not sure why but I'll find out). The other FTA channels on C1 are OK (but I have lost some duplicates and other FTA that was there before). I must have mess up the settings somewhere any ideas or clues please? I also have issues with the positioner irrespective of fine or course movement it just starts to move and keep going until I push the button again then stops. Is this an Octagon issue or have I got a bad positioner as there also seems to be minor issues with accurate repeatability. Would appreciate any clues. Thanks marc97au

    Hey all
Anybody know where to get the Octagon 918 @ a descent price.

Kristal Electronics & SatTronics both have them advertised @ $599.00

I have seen people have been able to pick them up around the $450 mark.

Would perfer a seller from victoria if possible.

    Cheers

I assume the price has gone up with new stock. You can buy these from Europe for about EU250 - , which converts to about A$420 + GST + TT charges + Freight, you might be lucky and land it here for less than $599...
